Skim speeders are one of the four Repulsorcraft classes you pilot in Star Wars: Galactic Racer, alongside Landspeeders, Speeder Bikes, and Podracers. What sets this class apart is that it did not exist in Star Wars before this game. Fuse Games invented the skim speeder specifically for Galactic Racer, which makes it the first repulsorcraft on the grid that is genuinely new to the wider Star Wars canon. The other three classes are all pre-existing vehicle types from the films and earlier material.
Creative Director Kieran Crimmins has described the skim speeder as a vehicle the studio wanted to be capable of a sharp "knife-edge" turn, and the team built the frame around delivering that move while still feeling, in his words, like an authentic Star Wars craft. The class offers fast mobility, and that knife-edge cornering is its whole identity.
Handling and feel
The skim speeder is one of the harder frames to control. It is made for hard banking turns rather than gentle, planted cornering, so getting the most out of it means committing to aggressive lines and trusting the bank. Pilots who master it can carve through corners in ways the heavier, more grounded classes cannot, but the trade-off is a steeper learning curve. One hands-on preview reported that the craft tilts dramatically into corners when you turn, a sensation the writer found unlike other racing games, though that specific tilt detail comes from a single early preview and is worth treating as a preview impression rather than a confirmed spec.
Because the skim speeder rewards confident, late braking and punishes hesitation, it suits players who want a high skill ceiling and are willing to wreck a few times while they learn the rhythm of its turns.
Signature trait: Knife Edge
Each repulsorcraft class carries a distinct chassis trait, and the skim speeder's is Knife Edge. The trait shares its name with the knife-edge turn the class was designed around, so it leans into the same hard-banking strength that defines the frame. Across the four classes, traits map as follows.
Class | Signature Trait |
|---|---|
Knife Edge | |
Drift | |
Kinetic Burst |
As with every class, you can tune a skim speeder between races. Base stats such as Afterburner, Battery, Cornering, and Ramjet are upgraded through parts you earn on a run or buy from the engineer Hibi in her paddock workshop, and the wider build system spans over 300 parts. For the full breakdown of stats, parts, and how the four classes compare, see Repulsorcraft.
The Deluxe Kor Sarun: Rak S
The Digital Deluxe Edition includes a skim speeder of its own: the Kor Sarun: Rak S. Kor Sarun is a vehicle line, not a character, and it spans three exclusive craft, one for each non-podracer class. The Rak S is the skim speeder of that trio, joined by the Ciza T speeder bike and the Darc X landspeeder. These are cosmetic and class-specific vehicles bundled with the upgraded edition rather than performance unlocks tied to progression.
