Star Wars: Galactic Racer pairs its single-player campaign with online multiplayer built around strategic player-versus-player grudge matches. This page collects what has been confirmed about playing against other people: player counts, cross-platform play, what needs an online connection, and what the game does not support. The game launches on October 6, 2026, so everything here is the published plan rather than detail from the finished build.
Grudge Matches
Official material describes multiplayer as strategic player-versus-player grudge matches where reputation rides with you; how reputation is tracked between races had not been detailed as of October 2, 2026. The game's racing is built around slamming, shunting and taking down rivals, as covered on Combat and Takedowns. How takedowns are tuned for online races had not been detailed as of October 2, 2026. The other modes that sit beside multiplayer are on Game Modes.

Player Counts
The developers' official FAQ sets two different caps depending on the vehicle class, and says multiplayer comes in multiple game modes.
Vehicles | Online Players |
|---|---|
Speeders: Landspeeders, Speeder Bikes and Skim Speeders | Up to 12 |
Up to 8 |
The Xbox Store lists online multiplayer for two to twelve players, and the PlayStation Store lists support for up to 12 online players. Podracers also have their own podracer-focused online events. The individual online modes had not been listed as of October 2, 2026.
Cross-Platform Play
Multiplayer is cross-platform: the Steam and Xbox listings both carry a cross-platform multiplayer badge, and the developers say Epic Online Services powers cross-platform play, friend management and invites. According to the developers' FAQ, Steam players are prompted on first launch to install the Epic Online Services redistributable if the Epic Games Store is not already installed, and because Steam does not allow optional installs it cannot be skipped; it is required for crossplay in online multiplayer. Signing in to an Epic Games account is only needed to manage friends who are not on Steam.
Online Requirements
Platform | Requirement for Online Multiplayer |
|---|---|
PlayStation 5 | A PlayStation Plus subscription |
Xbox Series X|S | An Xbox Game Pass Essential, Premium or Ultimate subscription |
PC | No subscription; Steam players need the Epic Online Services library for crossplay |
You need to be online for multiplayer and for the connected leaderboards in Arcade. The solo campaign, scenarios and Arcade events can all be played offline, as described on Story and Campaign.
Leaderboards
There is an online leaderboard, but it is not public. The developers' FAQ says it shows your best time to your friends. The connected leaderboards are tied to Arcade, which is why that part of Arcade needs an online connection even though its events can be played offline.
