Soulbound: Online is developed and published by SpiderWare, a UK indie studio based in London and founded in 2021. The studio is small: eighteen people covering engineering, art, animation, design, music, writing, production and QA, with prior shipping credits at Riot Games, Amazon Game Studios, Blizzard and Jagex.

SpiderWare is fully remote and fully async. There is no office and no mandatory meetings; the team works across time zones and writes things down instead of meeting about them. The studio's stated rule is that anyone on the team can put something into the game and ship it without an engineer or a chain of sign-offs. A designer can build a quest, an artist can populate a zone, and a writer can build a story event and see it in the build.
The name is meant literally. A web is interconnected, every strand reaching every other, so the studio runs without siloed departments and describes what it makes as software woven like a web.
Its stated thesis is that a small team with the right tools can produce hand-crafted, world-coherent content at the speed and scale of user-generated content, instead of choosing between the two. That is why live events sit at the centre of the design: the actions of the community drive the narrative, and the world is updated every week with new challenges, events and stories. The broader mission the studio gives itself is to build a new generation of MMORPGs, the kind of games that have not been made before.

The studio built Soulbound as a browser and Discord-native MMO. Running inside Discord and the browser, it passed one million players. In 2024 it won Discord's "Adventure Together" App Pitch.

The Steam release is a rebuilt, standalone version of the game. Earlier production builds are being retired for the relaunch, with prior progression reset.
The shipped Early Access client is Windows only. A Mac Steam client sits on the roadmap for the second quarter of 2027, the browser client the game once ran on has been retired, and the studio's own site still lists Mac, browser and mobile alongside PC among its platforms, none of which have shipped on Steam.
Launch details are on Early Access and Roadmap, and a per-update summary is on Update History.

Hiring no longer runs through the game's own site. Open roles are published on the studio's separate site, which also carries its about and careers pages and a live feed of the current listings.
Five roles were open as of August 2026, all of them fully remote:
Role | Area | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Video Game Content Designer | Design | Contract and part-time, anchored to London |
Backend Server Engineer (MMORPG) | Engineering | Cloud server infrastructure, United Kingdom |
Community Manager (MMORPG) | Community | London |
Japan Community Manager | Community | Open across Japan, the UK and the United States |
Video Game QA Tester | QA | United Kingdom, with several other countries also listed |
The Japan community role lines up with the studio's stated localisation plan, which starts with Japanese before Spanish, French and Brazilian Portuguese. The Early Access build itself ships in English only, as covered on Accessibility.
Player support runs through the studio's own help centre and support address rather than a third party, and the team said in-game support response times were running at around a minute in the days after launch.
