SpiderWare is the UK indie studio that develops and publishes Soulbound: Online. The studio is based in London and was founded in 2021. It is led by founder and CEO Thomas Webb.
How They Work
SpiderWare describes itself as a fully remote, fully async studio with a fast, startup-like culture where anyone on the team can ship changes. Its stated mission is to build a new generation of MMORPGs, the kind of games that have not been made before.
Soulbound's Origins
The studio built Soulbound as a browser and Discord-native MMO. Running inside Discord and the browser, it passed one million players and assembled a community in the tens of thousands. In 2024 it won Discord's "Adventure Together" App Pitch. The project first ran under the name Worldwide Webb before rebranding to Soulbound in June 2024, and its community grew to around 29,000 members.
The Move To Steam
The Steam release is a rebuilt, standalone version of the game. Earlier production builds are being retired for the relaunch, with prior progression reset, and the Steam version does not include blockchain, tokens, or NFTs. Launch details are on the Early Access and Roadmap page.
