Overview
Base building in Rooted allows players to create shelters and fortified positions in the post-apocalyptic world. The system combines modular construction of new structures with the ability to secure and repurpose existing buildings found throughout the map.
Placement system
Rooted uses a free-rotation placement system with no grid restrictions. Players can rotate building pieces freely to fit any terrain or layout. This allows for creative base designs that adapt to the environment rather than being constrained by a fixed grid.
Building approaches
Approach | Description |
|---|---|
Modular construction | Build new structures from scratch using gathered resources. Start with wood-tier materials available from the beginning. |
Securing existing structures | Claim and fortify abandoned houses, apartments, or office floors. Board up windows, add doors, and reinforce walls. |
Players can maintain multiple bases simultaneously. Camp locations can be established in forests, villages, or downtown areas, each offering different strategic advantages and proximity to resources or contaminated zones.
Outposts
In addition to primary bases, players can settle outposts by securing individual houses, offices, or entire building floors. These outposts serve as forward operating positions for exploration and resource gathering in more dangerous areas of the map.
Building tiers
The building system features material tiers that gate construction quality behind progression:
Wood tier: Available immediately at spawn. Provides basic shelter but limited protection against enemies.
Higher tiers unlock as players progress, providing better durability and defense against increasingly powerful threats.
Build menu
The build menu has been revamped with quality-of-life improvements:
Double-click selection for faster item placement.
Closure buttons for easy menu navigation.
Keyboard shortcuts for frequently used building actions.
Base defense
Players can protect their bases using craftable defensive structures including barricades, partitions, and traps. These items are placed around base perimeters to deter or damage enemies that attempt to breach the player's territory.
