Worship and Blessings is the focused mechanics page for the Altar system in Romestead. It complements The Gods and Worship (which catalogs the seven gods) by explaining the underlying numbers and interface.
The Altar is the worship interface. It is crafted at the Workbench from 3 Stone and can be placed anywhere in a settlement. Interacting with it opens the god panel.
Players click on a god portrait to open that god's offering window. Items are offered from inventory and fill that god's affinity meter. Filling the meter rewards 1 Worship Point. The "Discover Gods" quest tracks the first offering made to each god.
Each item resonates with a specific god. The relationship is not random; each god has a domain.
Confirmation is required when buying favors (patch 0.21.1_3), preventing accidental Worship Point spends.
The Altar shows a preview of upcoming worship unlocks (patch 0.20.2_1).
Offering window money-splitting bugs were fixed in patch 0.20.1_26.
Research notes were removed as Mercury offerings in patch 0.20.1_25 to focus the route.
A recruited citizen can be sacrificed at the Altar for bonus Worship Points. The baseline is +5 Worship Points across all gods per sacrifice; the relevant god gains an additional +10 per level of the citizen's aligned skill. A high-Blacksmithing citizen sacrificed to Vulcan therefore returns much more than a brand-new survivor.
Worship Points are spent in a god's talent tree. Each god's tree contains:
Construction unlocks (new buildings or building upgrades).
Stat bonuses (damage types, armor, resistance).
Citizen-buff favors (improving expertise, efficiency, etc.).
An Altar Blessing (described below).
Talent point costs range from 1 to 3 per node, with most upgrades sitting at the 1-2 range.
Each god offers an Altar Blessing. Only one Blessing can be active per character. Three are documented in the published Worship UI:
Blessing | Effect |
|---|---|
Blessing of Ceres | +25% overall Health. |
Blessing of Mars | +10% overall Melee attack power. |
Blessing of Venus | +10% overall Health and +10% overall Energy. |
Specific Blessing values for Minerva, Diana, Mercury, and Vulcan are not yet documented in the published Worship UI. Their talent trees still include construction and citizen-buff unlocks; the Altar Blessing slot for those four is implemented but not yet detailed in the wiki references this article relies on.
Altars upgraded to level 2 unlock teleportation. To teleport between two altars, both must be level 2. This makes multi-base play and quick travel between distant settlements practical. The Altar level-up XP display was added in patch 0.23.1_7.
Patch 0.23.1_3 was the major worship overhaul for Early Access:
Worship values per item changed.
XP required to level up gods changed.
Unique buildings moved from Altar offerings to offering-quests.
Subsequent patches added bread worship buffs (0.23.3_0), Mars-aligned grappling hook offerings (0.23.1_10), and ranged/caster gear re-routing from Vulcan to Diana (0.20.1_14).
