The Cyclops is the second progression boss after the Guardian of Minerva and the gatekeeper of the late mid-game in Romestead. Encountered at the end of The Eye dungeon in the Desert biome, the fight is part of the Virgil's Poem quest chain and drops the Tectonic armor set.
Field | Value |
|---|---|
HP | 10,000 |
Biome | |
Dungeon | The Eye |
Linked quest | Virgil's Poem (Minerva) |
Recommended tier | Iron gear plus boss-aligned consumables |
Repeatable | Yes |
The Virgil's Poem quest sets up the Cyclops as the descendant of the mythological cyclopes whose forging hammer kept Vulcan's fires lit. Defeating him is presented in-game as both a progression milestone and a callback to the original Cyclops drops, which include the Signet of Demo Completion: a literal medallion awarded to demo players who killed the Cyclops there as well.
The 10,000 HP wall makes this the longest fight in the launch build. Mixed-build parties win this faster than solo runs.
Tectonic-tier gear is the reward, so going in with the metal-tier ladder (Iron) is the canonical baseline.
Bring an Energy Potion. The fight is long enough that energy management for blocks and dodges matters.
Magic resistance was added to all enemies in patch 0.20.1_14, so pure scroll builds lose efficiency here.
Bakery buff food (Phoenix Stew, Cooked Meat Haunch) gives a critical pre-fight boost.
Granite Tooth
Nail of the Cyclops
Cyclops Shard
Bronze Bar
Linen
Bonesplint
Quadrans
Denarius
Signet of Demo Completion (for players returning from the demo)
Tectonic Helmet
Tectonic Armor
Tectonic Boots
Three kills minimum to complete the full Tectonic set, since each kill yields one of the three pieces randomly. The Tectonic Maul, Tectonic Scroll, and Tectonic Arcuballista come from crafting with these drops at the Blacksmith.
Defeating the Cyclops unlocks the Tectonic crafting tier and effectively closes the desert progression for the launch build. Players then push into the Volcano biome to face the two legendary foes added for Early Access.
The Eye: the dungeon that contains this boss (covered in the Dungeons hub).
Minerva: god whose quest chain leads here.
Enemies and Bosses: all five bosses.
