Players have discovered several hidden item variants in Pokopia since launch. These are cosmetic variants of regular items that appear randomly or under specific conditions. They do not affect gameplay but are prized by collectors and decorators for their unique appearances.
Item | Variant | How to Trigger |
|---|---|---|
Metal Fence | Oddish Fence | When placing metal fences in bulk, an Oddish-themed variant randomly appears in place of one fence segment |
Game Boy | Linked Game Boys | Place two Game Boy items adjacent to each other to create a visible link cable connecting them |
Pikachu Fountain | Ditto-Face Fountain | Random chance when crafting; the Pikachu face is replaced with Ditto's signature smile |
Chansey Plant | Ditto-Face Plant | Random chance when crafting; the Chansey face becomes Ditto's face |
Duckweed | White Flower Duckweed | Small chance to spawn with white flowers when using Leafage to pull duckweed from water |
Lily Pad | Lotus Lily Pad | Occasionally appears with a lotus flower on top |
Pan | Cooking Stand | Place a pan directly over a bonfire to create a makeshift cooking station (purely decorative) |
Most item variants are triggered by random chance during crafting or placement. There is no way to guarantee a variant will appear. Some players report that variants appear more frequently during Lucky Days, but this has not been officially confirmed.
Place items in bulk to increase your chances of seeing random variants.
Check every Pikachu Fountain and Chansey Plant you craft for the Ditto face.
The Game Boy link cable is deterministic (always appears when two Game Boys are adjacent).
Screenshot rare variants using Photo Mode for your collection.
Variants persist after placement; they do not revert to normal over time.
Variant items are purely cosmetic and provide the same functionality as their standard versions. They count as the same item in your inventory and for habitat requirements. The only difference is their visual appearance when placed in the world.
There is no in-game tracker for item variants. Players who want to collect all variants should use Photo Mode to document each variant they find.
Most variants are generated at the moment of crafting or placement. Once a variant appears, it persists permanently; it will not revert to its standard form over time. Variants cannot be forced to appear through any known method.
Crafting variants (like Ditto-Face Fountain): determined when the item is crafted. Craft multiple copies to increase your chances.
Placement variants (like Oddish Fence): determined when the item is placed. Pick up and re-place fences to re-roll for the variant.
Environmental variants (like White Flower Duckweed): determined when the plant grows. Use Leafage repeatedly to re-grow duckweed for another chance.
Deterministic variants (like Game Boy Link Cable): always appear when the trigger condition is met. These are not random.
Some players report that item variants appear more frequently during Lucky Days. This has not been officially confirmed by Game Freak, but multiple community reports suggest a correlation. Lucky Days are indicated by a sparkling notification at the start of the day.
