Initial version (2026-06-03): standalone venue page
The Story Nook is a venue in the Old Town area of Melino, the launch town of Paralives. In the launch build it functions as a pub or bar with a reading-themed character, having been designed as a bookstore café earlier in development. It is one of the named social venues confirmed in the Early Access build. See Town Venues for the full venue directory.
The venue is made of two conjoined buildings, one with a green facade and one with a red facade. The interior walls are entirely covered with wood panels, large red curtains mask the windows, and assorted carpets cover the wood flooring, giving it a warm, snug atmosphere.
A Parafolk can order from multiple beverages at the bar, socialize at barrel tables, and enjoy music. The venue is split across levels, each with its own character.
Area | Features |
|---|---|
Main level | Bar with multiple beverages, barrel tables for socializing, music |
Upstairs | Fireplace seating, the Meli-Melo game, and books to borrow |
Lower level | A smaller bar and a dance floor with a DJ booth |
The upstairs reading corner, where a Parafolk can borrow books, carries over the venue's original bookstore-café concept. Time spent here drinking, dancing, and socializing feeds the social loop through the Relationships and Social System and Together Cards, and reading borrowed books connects to Skills and Knowledge. The Story Nook is also one of the supported places to read The New Paper.
Because the venue spans two floors, getting Parafolk to move correctly between levels mattered for the launch: a fix for second-floor exit pathfinding at The Story Nook was included in the Day-0 patch released alongside the Early Access launch, ensuring Parafolk leave the upper level without getting stuck.
The two conjoined buildings give the venue a layered, lived-in feel that the wood paneling, heavy red curtains, and mismatched carpets reinforce. The barrel tables on the main level and the fireplace upstairs lean into a snug pub atmosphere, while the lower-level dance floor and DJ booth give it a second, livelier mode for evenings. The mix lets a single venue serve both a quiet reader and a Parafolk out for a night of music, which fits its blend of Food and Service roles in the town's job domains; see Careers.
The Story Nook sits in the Old Town area, near the Pharmacy and Headlines on the same stretch of streets. As with every lot, it sits in a seamless open world with no loading screens, reachable on foot or by the PL130 bus line; see Bus Stops and Town Districts.
Crème, the town's other reading-friendly venue.
Relationships and Social System for the social side of nights out.
Skills and Knowledge for the books a Parafolk can borrow.
