The Hospital is the health center of Melino, the launch town of Paralives. It is one of the town's two health-services lots and is described as a large, modern medical facility. Parafolk visit the hospital to recover from illness, and it is the venue tied to bringing new family members into a household, both through birth and through adoption. See Town Venues for the full venue directory.
The hospital also functions as a workplace. Working a shift there draws on medical skills, which connects the venue to the broader Careers and Skills and Knowledge systems. The hospital sits directly across from the Community Center on the town map.
The hospital bundles several health and family-related functions into one lot. The table below summarizes its confirmed roles in the launch build.
Service | Description |
|---|---|
Health and Recovery | Parafolk can recover from illness at the hospital. Health and illness sit alongside the wider survival systems covered in Needs System and Fire and Death. |
Birth | The hospital is tied to bringing newborns into a household; the full pregnancy loop is documented in Pregnancy and Birth. |
Adoption | Households can grow through adoption at the hospital, an alternative to pregnancy for adding a child to a family. |
Medical Work | Hospital shifts pair with the Surgery skill and related medical knowledge; see Careers for the working-day side. |
The hospital is the venue most closely associated with family growth in Melino. A household can add a child either by pregnancy or by adoption, giving players two routes to expand a family. The pregnancy route, including conception, the pregnancy stages, and the birth itself, is covered in detail on the Pregnancy and Birth page. The adoption route adds a child to the household without a pregnancy, and the hospital is where that process is handled. New family members then progress through the game's Lifestages as they grow.
Beyond family planning, the hospital is the place Parafolk go to recover when their health declines. Illness and recovery are part of the survival layer that also includes the core Needs System and the more serious consequences documented in Fire and Death. The hospital provides a confirmed in-town destination for treating a sick Parafolk rather than leaving recovery purely to home care.
The hospital is also a place of employment in Melino. Working a hospital shift draws on the Surgery skill and related medical knowledge, tying the venue into both the Skills and Knowledge progression and the Careers system. This makes the hospital one of the named workplaces that anchor a profession on the launch map, similar to how other Melino venues anchor their own career domains.
The hospital is positioned directly opposite the Community Center on the Melino map, making the two civic-health venues easy to reach together. As with every Melino lot, the hospital sits in a seamless open world with no loading screens, so Parafolk can walk to it from nearby lots or arrive by public transit. The PL130 bus line connects every district to a nearby Bus Stops station, with the final stretch covered on foot. For the building's place within the town layout, see Town Districts.
