Accessibility Options
September 9, 2026 at 09:55 AM
Rebuilt around the eight in-game option categories, added roughly 40 previously missing settings including the shortcut action list, marked which settings are new to this game, and reworded the option-count section to separate the 35 storefront tags from the full published list
Marvel's Wolverine ships with an unusually detailed set of accessibility and assist options, and they are worth reading even if you are not looking for accessibility features specifically. Several of them are the clearest public description of systems the game has otherwise said little about, and the options menu is where a few in-game terms first appear in writing.
Two figures describe this game's accessibility, and they measure different things. The PlayStation product page shows a count of 35, which is the number of standardised storefront accessibility tags the game qualifies for: 7 under Visuals, 5 under Audio, 6 under Subtitles and Captions, 9 under Controls, and 8 under Gameplay. Those tags are a shared vocabulary used across the whole platform, so they describe what the game supports rather than what its settings menu contains. Insomniac published a separate, game-specific list, and that one runs to more than 120 individual settings across eight categories. The studio's own summary figure for it is over 100 new, returning and improved accessibility features.
Neither number is wrong and neither should be quoted as the other. This page follows the studio's list, because it is the one that maps onto the menus you actually see in game.
The options are grouped into eight categories: Gameplay Assists, Motion Sensitivity, Visual Assists, Audio Assists, High Contrast Options, Violence Customization, Subtitles and Captions, and Controller and Layout. Violence Customization is entirely new to this game. Most categories open with a preset that sets several related options in one go, and there are separate Motor, Motion Sensitivity, Vision, Hearing, High Contrast, and Violence presets.
The tables below mark each setting as either new to this game or returning from earlier Insomniac releases, following the studio's own tagging. 46 settings carry the new tag. A handful of entries are not on the disc at launch and arrive with the first update instead; those are called out in the description for each affected setting.
This is the largest category and it doubles as the closest thing to a published difficulty system. Insomniac has not described a named difficulty structure beyond the Challenge Level option itself, so the individual sliders are where the real granularity lives. See Combat and Rage and Healing Factor.

Navigation Assist and the red trail shown during chase sequences are separate things. Whether Chase Assist also removes that chase trail has not been confirmed. Skip Puzzle is worth noting alongside Progression and Upgrades, since puzzles gate some optional rewards.
This group mixes camera behaviour with render effects, so several of the entries double as graphics settings rather than accessibility ones. Film grain, motion blur, chromatic aberration, and depth of field can all be switched off individually.
Option | What it does | Status |
|---|---|---|
Motion Sensitivity Preset | Applies a preset that sets several motion options at once. | Returning |
Fullscreen Effects | Toggles damage vignettes, intense flashing, and other effects that cover large parts of the screen. | Returning |

Center Dot Size | Small, Medium, or Large. | New |
Center Dot Color | Sets the colour of the centre dot. | New |
Center Dot Opacity | Light, Medium, Dark, or Full. | New |
The colour customisation entries here are the most useful group for anyone who has trouble separating combat cues. Parry prompts, dodge prompts, enemy effects, and the Senses effect each take their own colour.
Option | What it does | Status |
|---|---|---|
Vision Preset | Applies a preset that sets several vision options at once. | Returning |

The audio group is the largest source of new options after Gameplay Assists, and it covers three separate things: hearing accommodations, screen reader behaviour, and a set of content filters that have nothing to do with hearing at all.

High Frequency Cutoff | Filters out everything above 6,000 Hz. | Returning |
Notch Frequency Filter | Enables a slider that removes a specific frequency range. | Returning |
Low Frequency Cutoff | Filters out everything below 600 Hz. | Returning |
Streaming Mode | Switches between licensed and composed music, so recorded or streamed play does not carry licensed tracks. | Returning |
The high contrast layer can outline characters or flat-shade them in a single colour so they separate cleanly from the background. Every category of object gets its own shader, and the enemy shader is subdivided across seven enemy types, which is a useful hint at how many distinct enemy classes the game runs. See Enemies and Factions.
Option | What it does | Status |
|---|---|---|
High Contrast Presets | Four presets that set a group of high contrast options at once. | Returning |
High Contrast Outlines Friendly | Puts a single solid colour outline on friendly characters. | Returning |
High Contrast Outlines Enemy | Puts a single solid colour outline on enemy characters. | Returning |

High Contrast Background | Toggles a high contrast background so some elements read more clearly. | Returning |
High Contrast Shader Fill Opacity | Sets how far the shaders override a character's natural colours. | New |
This category is new. Insomniac describes the game as unapologetically violent and gory by nature of the character, and added the violence and adult language toggles so players could choose how much of that they see and hear. The blood, the dismemberment, and the state of Logan's own body as his healing factor works are all separate controls.
Option | What it does | Status |
|---|---|---|
Violence Preset | Some or Full. Sets Dynamic Blood, Dismemberment, and Visceral Healing together. | New |
Dynamic Blood | Toggles blood from impacts, in gameplay and in cinematics. | New |
Dismemberment | Toggles dismemberment. Gameplay drops it entirely and cinematics blur it. | New |
Visceral Healing | Sets how much physical damage is shown on Logan's body in gameplay and cinematics. | New |
Visceral Healing is the one to know about if you are reading these options for gameplay reasons rather than comfort ones: it governs how visibly Logan carries damage, which is the visual side of the system covered under Rage and Healing Factor. The Profanity Filter in the audio group is the adult language half of the same design decision.
Subtitles and captions are configured separately, and both carry a full set of size, colour, and direction controls. The direction indicators are the notable pair. They point toward the source of a line or a sound, either for everything or only for sources that are off screen.
Option | What it does | Status |
|---|---|---|
Subtitles | Toggles dialogue text at the bottom of the screen. | Returning |
Subtitle Size | Sets the size of subtitles. | Returning |
Subtitle Color | Sets the subtitle text colour. | Returning |
Subtitle Speaker Color | Sets the colour used for the speaker name. | Returning |
Subtitle Background Color | Sets the background colour behind subtitles. | Returning |
Subtitle Background Opacity | Sets how opaque that background is. | Returning |
Subtitle Direction Indicators | Shows direction indicators during gameplay, either for every subtitle or only for off-screen speakers. | New |
Subtitle Direction Indicator Color | Sets the colour of those indicators. | New |
Captions | Toggles text for important sound effects and music, in gameplay and in cinematics. | Returning |
Caption Size | Sets the size of captions. | Returning |
Caption Color | Sets the caption text colour. | Returning |
Caption Background Color | Sets the background colour behind captions. | Returning |
Caption Background Opacity | Sets how opaque that background is. | Returning |
Caption Direction Indicators | Shows direction indicators for every caption or only for off-screen sources. | New |
Caption Direction Indicator Color | Sets the colour of those indicators. | New |
Music Caption Color | Sets the colour used for music captions. | New |
Alongside remapping, this category holds the vibration and trigger controls, so it is where you go to soften the DualSense feedback rather than turn it off wholesale. Platform-level controller support is covered on Technical Features and Performance.
Option | What it does | Status |
|---|---|---|
Controller Remapping | Changes the controller layout using presets or a custom mapping. | Returning |
Shortcuts | Assigns an action to each of the four directional buttons. The assignable actions are listed below. | Returning |
Adaptive Triggers | Sets the force and tension applied when pressing L2 and R2. The available range is determined by the system software. | Returning |
Cinematic Vibration | Adjusts vibration strength during cinematics. | New |
Footstep Vibration | Adjusts the strength of the vibration for Logan's footsteps in gameplay. | New |
Controller Speaker Mode | Sets what the controller speaker plays. | Returning |
Controller Vibration Mode | Experiential, Functional, or None. | Returning |
Controller Vibration Intensity | Sets how strong the vibration is. | Returning |
Each of the four directional buttons can be assigned one of the following actions:
Shortcut action | What it does |
|---|---|
None | Leaves the button unassigned. |
Screen Reader Status | Plays a readout of your current HUD status. |
Toggle Contrast Options | Turns the high contrast options on or off. |
Game Speed | Toggles the game speed option you have set. |
Various Combat Holds and Double Presses | Maps combat holds and double presses to the button. |
Collectible / Interact Tracker | Switches Navigation Assist from tracking objectives to tracking collectibles and interactive objects within range. |
Special Techniques Toggle | Performs a Special Technique. A shortcut is available for every Technique slot. |
Photo Mode | Opens Photo Mode. Arrives with the launch update on disc copies. |
The Screen Reader supports English, French, Italian, German, Latin American Spanish, Castilian Spanish, and Japanese. Every language other than English and Japanese arrives with the launch update on disc copies rather than shipping on the disc itself. Audio Description covers the same seven languages and plays in whichever voice language you have selected, and it is also an update feature on disc.
The Profanity Filter is the exception to all of this. It is available for US English only, and it both silences the spoken word and masks it on screen with asterisks.
Platform features such as PS5 Pro support, haptics, and Photo Mode itself are covered on Technical Features and Performance.
