The world of Aethoril is continuous and shared. Zones connect through zone lines, which the studio's glossary defines as invisible lines that transition your character to another zone when crossed. Nothing is instanced, so crossing a line puts you in the same copy of the next zone as everyone else who is there.
Your bind point is where you respawn after dying. By default it is set to the location where you first logged in to the character, and it can be changed through spells and other mechanisms. Gate is the core self-teleport: it returns the caster to their own bind. That makes bind placement a travel decision as much as a death one.

Long-distance movement is class-gated rather than a universal system. The published spell lists give the following.
Class | Confirmed movement tools |
|---|---|
Zone portals and gates, for a group or for the caster alone, to Shaded Dunes, Glass Flats or Vale of Zintar. Translocate returns a group member to their bind. Evacuation moves a group, and Exodus the caster, to a safe location in the current zone. Blink is a short hop. | |
Ring, Circle and Sanctuary of Evershade Weald and of Sungreet Strand, plus Gate, Exodus and Sanctuary. | |
Ritual of Escape, a group disengage with a recovery component, plus Gate. | |
Gate and Soulbind. | |
Gate and Soulbind. |
The destinations named above are all zones in the launch set. See Zones for the full list and Starting Cities for the four cities a character can begin in.
Buff | Notes |
|---|---|
Speed of the Wild | Glossed in the developer's own material by the shorthand SoW. |
Pack Speed | A group movement buff. |
Speed of the Predator | A movement buff in the same family. |
Prowler's Instinct | A Beastmaster group speed buff, and the one confirmed to work indoors. |
Ranger travel abilities | The Ranger carries travel and escape abilities that benefit the party outdoors. |
There is no published minimap or quest marker to follow, so orientation is a skill. In an outdoor zone you can work out the cardinal directions from the movement of the sun or the moons, which rise in the east and set in the west. Otherwise, ask a guard: target one and type a keyword in /say.

Keyword type | Examples given by the developer |
|---|---|
Cardinal directions | north, south, east, west |
General districts | Necropolis, Sageside |
Notable locations | Concourse of Souls, Night Market |
Points of interest | bank, inn, Western Gate |
Classes and class trainers | cleric, fighter, Fedamius Steele |
Merchants and buyers | armor, drink, food, meat, pelts |
The same keyword mechanism drives conversation with every other NPC in the game. See Quests.
Carrying too much puts you in the Encumbered state, which reduces your movement speed and, more importantly for travel, means you cannot gate or teleport at all. Emptying your bags before a run home is a real step. See Items and Equipment and Interface and Commands for the rest of the character states.
Outside a city after dark you need a light source, because when it is dark, it is dark. Time of day also affects spawns, foraging and harvesting, along with the day of the week, the lunar cycle and the seasons, so the hour you set out changes what you meet on the road. See Tradeskills.
As of September 2026, no published page from the developer describes rideable mounts or any fast travel beyond the class spells listed above. The only recovery command in the published list that moves your character is /unstuck, which returns you to the last unstuck position and carries a 5 minute cooldown.
