Season 1: Soul Hunt
September 21, 2026 at 06:40 AM
Marked the season task easing as shipped on August 28 and September 15, Brandrgarde Solo Mode as live, and added the one-month and weekend rewards
Mistfall Hunter launched straight into its first season rather than adding one later. Season 1 is called Soul Hunt, and it arrived with the game on July 29, 2026, bringing a storyline, a difficulty tier, a competitive ladder, and a set of launch-window events. The systems it plugs into are described on Progression, Skills, and Talents.
The season is built around a concept the developers call the Fate Chart, which drives the seasonal storyline and records how the world is bending as hunters act on it. The gameplay that runs through it, Soul Hunt, is tied to the chart's progression and carries across every narrative phase of the season, so what players do feeds back into the direction the world takes. Soul Hunt is the season's name; Soul Harvest is the seasonal gameplay feature that runs inside it, and it went live on August 12, 2026 rather than at launch.
The story behind it is the Velgr restarting their forbidden soul experiments, turning creatures into rampaging Cocoon Puppets in a bid to seize soul power and build a False God, which would tear the Web of Fate apart. Dew calls the hunters together to track down the wandering exiled souls and contain the corruption. The wider setting is on The World and Lore.
Rather than dropping the whole season at once, the developers staged it across three phases. Soul Harvest went live on August 12, 2026 rather than on day one, and a later phase brings the Ancestor Tree to Hallowgrove as a random match event, where breaking its seal claims gifts from the ancient spirits and forces the usual choice between pushing for more and leaving with what you have.
Addition | Detail |
|---|---|
Polearm and Shield | A second weapon stance for the Withered Knight, with six new skills and a long-range teammate rescue |
Holy weapons | A weapon tier with exclusive gameplay affixes, dropping from map bosses, one unique weapon per boss |
Cataclysm difficulty | The hardest setting, added to Brandrgarde, where elite enemies are tougher and top-tier loot drops across the map |
Soul Hunt | The seasonal gameplay tied to the Fate Chart, with its own tasks and events |
Collection Pedestal | A display in your camp for the loot you have brought home |
Ladder and tier rewards | The Path of Glory ranked ladder, seven tiers from Duskborn to Zenith |
Battle pass | The Slumbering Contract, free after seven days of cumulative logins, alongside additional cosmetics |
Ancestor Tree | A random match event added in Phase III |
One planned addition did not make it. The Blackarrow second weapon was pushed back because of development timelines, so the class shipped with the bow alone. It has since been confirmed as a Javelin arriving in Season 2. The stance system it belongs to is on Combat and Weapons.
The developers published a phased roadmap rather than dropping the whole season at once.
Phase | What it adds |
|---|---|
Phase I | Einherjar Mode unlocks the Mist Lord challenge. Season tasks become available as a mysterious guest arrives at Windrest with news that pulls hunters toward an unknown fate. Soul Harvest opens: gather Soul Cocoons, challenge the Soulgnawer, and fight through a new multiplayer showdown for exclusive rewards. The Soul Harvest Exchange Shop trades exclusive collectibles, Soul Coins, and Moonlight Nectar. |
Phase II | Season tasks fully unlock as a new crisis surfaces alongside the guest, with the S1 Pip's Rare Pouch and the Nether Ferry skin as task rewards. Brandrgarde Solo Mode arrives (shipped September 3, 2026). The Underlord Speed Challenge pays bonus rewards from Fern the Woodling for killing Underlords quickly. |
Phase III | The Golden Woodling arrives, a rare Woodling disguised as treasure. The Ancestor Tree becomes a random match event: break its seal for gifts from the ancient spirits, with rival hunters watching. A Season 2 teaser opens tasks that uncover clues and lock in early rewards, under the line that the fires of the past await their rekindling. |

Soul Harvest is the season's headline gameplay. In matches where the ritual is active, a new elite monster called the Soulgnawer appears, described as having a slender build, a serpentine lower body, and human-like facial features. She actively disrupts the ritual, so completing it means killing her, and doing that while rival hunters circle for a third-party ambush is the actual challenge. The creature is listed alongside the rest of the roster on Enemies and Bosses.
The ritual reached live matches on August 12, 2026. While Soul Harvest is active it can trigger in Hallowgrove and Brandrgarde, and the higher a map's Gyldening Intensity, the likelier it is to fire. Soul Incubators carrying Soul Cocoons scatter across the map and a Fate Altar appears to host the prayer. Once a match has run for a set time, submitting two Soul Cocoons at the altar starts the ritual. The full breakdown, including what carrying a cocoon does to your position on other hunters' screens, is on Soul Harvest.
Finishing runs pays out in Soul Harvest tokens, spent at the Mistchaser Shop. The stock includes a season-exclusive Holy-quality collectible called the Soulbound Serpent Crystal, a Holy Material Selection Chest, Moonlight Nectar, and Soul Coins, and the developers have said more rare rewards will be added as the season runs.
The first season's battle pass is called the Slumbering Contract, and it unlocks free after seven days of cumulative logins. The developers went further than a one-season giveaway: as long as you stay reasonably active during a season, you can renew into the next season's pass for free as well. The Slumbering Servant outfit, which drew heavy attention during Steam Next Fest, was added to the pass rewards and is redeemed with tokens earned through normal play.
Three things are confirmed for the second season: a new Blackarrow weapon, the Javelin; an all-new season theme with its own exclusive gameplay; and an all-new season-exclusive progression system. The developers said further seasonal content would be unveiled gradually. On August 20 they went further, describing the Javelin as being in full production and publishing a first look at its concept art. The same update named one balance change already earmarked for the second season: the Withered Knight's Enhanced Shield Bash build is underperforming next to the Quick Shield Bash build, and significant adjustments to it are likely then.
The developers describe a season as running roughly three to four months. A season ends with a reset: most progression is wiped so the next season starts everyone level, though certain long-term progress carries over rather than being lost. A fresh roadmap is laid out toward the end of each season. Exact dates for the end of the first season have not been published.
On August 20, 2026 the developers published the specifics of that reset for the first time. It is a partial wipe rather than a full one, and they described the framework as having been locked in early in development. Carrying every asset forward between seasons would force them to tighten drop rates and slow late-game resource acquisition to keep the server-wide economy stable, which is not the experience they want; the trade is a fresh start each season with relatively high drop rates instead.
Category | What happens at a season rollover |
|---|---|
What resets | Character levels, warehouse supplies, and select camp buildings |
What carries over | Long-term progression systems, including the Collection Pedestal |
Compensation | A portion of your seasonal assets is returned, freely exchangeable for key resources: Pip's Rare Pouch, Unbound Holy Collectibles, Holy Soulcatch Nets, exclusive cosmetics, and Combat Bags of various tiers |
Bonus rewards | Exclusive honorary rewards scaled to your net asset worth in the previous season |
The stated purpose of the compensation tier is to leave players who accumulated significant wealth in one season with a reasonable head start in the next, without letting that carry-over flatten the fresh-start curve for newcomers. The developers said the core framework will not change in the short term, while the exact compensation items, trade-in ratios, and reset categories stay open to iteration against live-server data. A full breakdown of the wipe specification is promised toward the end of the first season and has not been published yet.
The season's task list drew the bulk of community feedback after launch. Unlocking every end-game reward takes 152 tasks in total, a number the developers acknowledged was daunting enough that some players stepped away from seasonal progression altogether, and for which they apologised. They explained the count as a side effect of two design choices: a large amount of story dialogue was wrapped directly into the task system to flesh out the world, and a number of non-essential side tasks were bundled in alongside it.
Reward | Tasks required |
|---|---|
Pip's Rare Pouch, usable for the whole season | 50 core tasks |
Legendary Nether Ferry skin | 93 tasks |
Every end-game reward | 152 tasks |
Three commitments came with the apology: future seasons will cut the total task count sharply, progression pacing will be retuned, and mandatory three-player team requirements will be removed entirely. Adjustments to individual tasks were promised for the near term rather than held back to the next season, and they arrived in two steps. The August 28, 2026 maintenance cut the kill counts on monster-slaying tasks and dropped their difficulty-mode restrictions, changed tasks against Gyldhunters from executions to defeats with fewer targets required, turned equipment-value conditions into rarity conditions, and marked the objectives that a team can progress together; Contract tasks lost most of their counts and every container-search task, tactical-item tasks now accept any tactical item, and the reward for each Daily Task rose from 30 to 40 Contract Sigils. The September 15 update then rewrote four specific tasks: Soul Hunt asks for one Soul Harvest completed while staying alive, Battle-Tested and Preserving the Truth no longer reset unless every objective is met in a single session, and All or Nothing requires defeating one Gyldhunter.
A run of limited events, collected under the name The Gylden Rush, runs alongside the launch. The window opens at 01:00 UTC on July 30, 2026 and closes at 00:59 UTC on August 26, 2026.
Event | Window (UTC) | What it is |
|---|---|---|
Golden Envoy Faction War | July 17 to August 12, 2026 | Golden Envoys appear in the world; defeating them yields their Golden Ciphers |
Golden Cipher | July 30, 01:00 to August 19, 17:00, 2026 | Opening Golden Ciphers can award in-game rewards and physical prizes |
Watch Streams, Earn Drops | July 30, 01:00 to August 26, 00:59, 2026 | Watching live streams of the game accrues in-game rewards |
The Gylden Rush Show | August 13, 2026, 00:00 | A broadcast where the event's final prize is awarded |
All four have now closed. The Golden Envoy Faction War ran from July 17 to August 12, and the Gylden Rush window itself ended at 00:59 UTC on August 26, 2026.
Two reward programmes followed the Gylden Rush. A one-month milestone celebration ran from September 3 to 5, 2026, sending a three-day Pip's Rare Pouch Voucher and a Pro Combat Bag on the first day, a seven-day Rare Repair Kit and a Pro Combat Bag on the second, and a Premium Legendary Material Selection Chest, which grants one unbound Legendary construction material from a list including Celestigold and the Messenger Bug Jar, plus an Elite Combat Bag on the third; any character that reached Level 5 before September 13 at 16:00 UTC could claim them by mail. From the weekend of September 11 until the end of Season 1, weekend logins earn Combat Supplies: a Pro Combat Bag is mailed at 00:00 on Friday and on Saturday, and an Elite Combat Bag at 00:00 on Sunday, each claimable within 24 hours on the server's local time (UTC+0 on the International server, UTC+10 on Oceania, UTC-8 on North America).
How the game is sold, including what the two editions contain and the introductory discount, is on Editions and Game Pass.
Ranked play across the season runs on Path of Glory, and the patch-by-patch record of what has actually shipped is on Updates and Patch Notes.
