The maps of Mistfall Hunter are full of things trying to end your run. Some are corrupted monsters, some are apex predators built for dedicated fights, and all of them sit on the PvE side of the game's PvPvE design described on Extraction and Gameplay Loop.
The Corroded

The most common threat is the Corroded, creatures twisted by the Gyldenmist. They are the standard monsters you fight while scavenging a zone, and they range from basic enemies up to nastier types like the Frenzied Wizard. Their origin in the mist is covered on The World and Lore.
The Velgr
Another enemy line is the Velgr. The developers have described designing the Soulreaver Acolyte, identified as the female Velgr, which suggests the Velgr come in more than one form.
The Mist Lords
At the top of the threat list are the Mist Lords, described as the terrifying apex bosses of the world. These are the marquee encounters, challenged in the high-difficulty Einherjar Mode. The developers point to them as the main source of the best gear in the game: the most reliable way to earn top-tier equipment is to bring a Mist Lord down on the hardest setting, Cataclysm difficulty, which demands strong PvE play.
Confirmed bosses
Several named bosses are confirmed in the launch build. The table below lists what has been confirmed about each. Note one open question: the moon-themed boss appears under two names, and the makers have not stated whether they are the same entity, so both are listed.
Boss | Details |
|---|---|
Sálmar, the Cursed Moonwane | A two-phase boss in Hallowgrove, born of a failed forbidden experiment to summon a deity. Described as fused flesh and departed souls. |
Otto, the Flesheater | A confirmed boss revealed through the makers' official channel; further detail is limited. |
General Harald | Also called Harald, the Fallen General, an Einherjar boss. Fought in the Chaos Trio setting via Einherjar Mode, activated by a Dried Flower Knot. |
Prayer of the Moon | A boss present in the June 2026 Open Beta that summons phantoms during the fight. It may be the in-match name or phase of Sálmar, the Cursed Moonwane, but this has not been officially confirmed. |
Map bosses are also the only source of Holy weapons. Each one holds its own unique Holy weapon, distinguished by exclusive gameplay affixes rather than raw stats, which makes a specific boss the route to a specific build. The tier is described on Combat and Weapons.
Einherjar Mode
The toughest boss hunts run in Einherjar Mode, a high-difficulty mode reached within a Chaos Trio match and switched on with a Dried Flower Knot. This is where players take on the likes of General Harald and challenge the Mist Lords. The maps these fights take place across are covered on Maps and Zones.
Cocoon Puppets
A newer enemy type arrives with the first season. Cocoon Puppets are creatures the Valgr have converted in their soul experiments, left rampaging rather than controlled. They exist because of the push to build a False God, and the background to that is on The World and Lore.
The Woodlings
Woodlings are a distinct creature line rather than another kind of Corroded. The best known is the Returner Woodling, the rare creature you have to cut down to open an extraction point, which is covered on Extraction and Gameplay Loop. The season roadmap adds two more: Fern the Woodling, who pays out bonus rewards for the Underlord Speed Challenge, and the Golden Woodling, a rare variant that disguises itself as treasure and is described as being as deadly as its golden radiance is mysterious.
Seasonal threats
The first season introduces its own enemies alongside the permanent roster. These arrive in stages rather than all at launch, and the schedule is on Season 1: Soul Hunt.
Enemy | When | Details |
|---|---|---|
Soulgnawer | Season 1 Phase I | An elite monster that appears in matches running the Soul Harvest ritual. Slender build, serpentine lower body, human-like facial features. She actively disrupts the ritual and has to be killed to complete it, all while rival hunters may be closing in. |
Underlords | Season 1 Phase II | Targets of the Underlord Speed Challenge, where killing them quickly earns bonus rewards from Fern the Woodling. |
Golden Woodling | Season 1 Phase III | A rare Woodling disguised as precious treasure. |
