The Umbral Lamp is the central traversal tool of Lords of the Fallen II, returning from the first game. As its bearer, the player can pass between the realm of the living and the realm of the undead, each with its own pathways, treasures, and nightmarish creatures.

Raising the lamp lets the player peer into and step across to Umbral, opening routes and revealing things hidden in the living world. The two realms are presented at once, so the world can shift around the player without a loading break.
The reworked dual-realm system has been described by the team as Umbral 2.0. The biggest change is how danger builds. In the first game a linear countdown pulled the player back, but here a dynamic threat the developers call Dread rises in response to the player's activity. The more the player interacts with the world, the more hostile Umbral becomes, and its horrors press in.
Lingering in the undead realm grows more dangerous the longer the player stays, as the dead take notice and draw closer. Greater and darker powers are promised to those who brave it, tying exploration of the realm directly to the game's sense of risk and reward.
