Funerals

Initial version
Funerals are a memorial gameplay feature introduced in the October 2025 Update (v0.4.0) that allows players to hold ceremonies for deceased Zois and preserve their memory through urns and enshrined remains. The system adds two new property types to every city: the Funeral Home & Columbarium and the Cemetery. Together, these locations provide the infrastructure for holding funeral events, storing urns, and visiting the resting places of Zois who have passed away.
The funeral system is closely tied to inZOI's broader death and afterlife mechanics. When a Zoi dies, an urn is generated automatically. Players can then organize a funeral through the Make Event interaction, enshrine the urn at a columbarium, and even witness the deceased Zoi's ghost attend their own ceremony before departing to the afterlife. The feature brings emotional weight to the life simulation by giving players a way to honor and remember Zois who are no longer part of the household.
The funeral process in inZOI follows a straightforward sequence that begins the moment a Zoi passes away.
Urn generation. When a Zoi living in the city dies, or when someone they know passes away, an urn is automatically generated. The urn can be found at the Funeral Home after the Zoi's death. Note that urns are only generated for Zois who die after the v0.4.0 update; deaths that occurred in earlier versions of the game do not produce urns retroactively.
Hold a funeral event. With the urn available, players can organize a funeral by selecting the Make Event option. This creates a social event where living Zois can gather to pay their respects to the deceased.
Enshrine the urn. After the funeral, or at any point while holding the urn, players can bring it to the Cemetery and use the Enshrine Deceased interaction to place the urn in a columbarium niche. Once enshrined, the urn has a permanent resting place that other Zois can visit.
Visit and pay respects. Living Zois can return to the Cemetery or Columbarium at any time to visit the enshrined urn, express their longing, and honor the memory of the deceased.
Players also have the option to retrieve an enshrined urn from the columbarium if they wish to hold another ceremony or relocate the remains.
The v0.4.0 update added two new community lot types to every playable city in inZOI. Both properties are accessible to all Zois and serve as the designated spaces for funeral-related activities.
Property | Purpose | Available Cities |
|---|---|---|
Funeral Home & Columbarium | The venue where funeral ceremonies are held. Urns of deceased Zois appear here after death. The columbarium section provides niches where urns can be permanently enshrined. | Dowon, Bliss Bay, Cahaya |
Cemetery | A community lot with outdoor grounds for visiting the deceased. Players can enshrine urns here and return to pay respects. The Cemetery is divided into two sub-lots: the Cemetery grounds and the Funeral Home & Columbarium building. | Dowon, Bliss Bay, Cahaya |
In Dowon, the Cemetery is located in the northwest part of the city. In Cahaya, the Cemetery community lot sits on the eastern side near the Sri Lestari Resort. Each city received both property types as part of the Halloween update to ensure all players have access regardless of which city they call home.
Urns are the physical objects that represent a deceased Zoi's remains. They are generated automatically when a Zoi dies and serve as the central item in the funeral process.
An urn appears at the Funeral Home after a Zoi's death.
Players can pick up, move, and carry urns between locations.
The Make Event interaction on an urn triggers a funeral ceremony.
The Enshrine Deceased interaction places the urn permanently in a columbarium niche at the Cemetery.
Enshrined urns can be retrieved later if the player wants to hold a new ceremony or move the remains.
Urns are only created for Zois who die after v0.4.0. Deaths from earlier game versions do not retroactively produce urns.
The funeral system is deeply connected to inZOI's ghost mechanics, which were also introduced in the v0.4.0 update. After death, a Zoi can choose to continue existing as a ghost for three in-game days. During this period, the ghost can satisfy urges related to their cause of death, unlock special ghost skills, and interact with the living world.
When the three-day ghost period ends, the Zoi faces a final choice: ascend to the afterlife or attend their own funeral before peacefully departing. Choosing to attend the funeral gives the ghost one last opportunity to be present at their own memorial ceremony alongside the living Zois who have gathered to say goodbye. After attending, the ghost departs permanently.
A Zoi's Karma score plays a significant role in determining what happens after death. Zois who die with normal or good Karma transition to the afterlife peacefully, meaning they disappear from the game and can no longer be played. They receive the option to either ascend immediately or attend their funeral first.
Zois who die with bad Karma do not get the same clean departure. Instead, they are forced to remain as ghosts in the city and must perform good deeds to redeem their Karma before they can move on to the afterlife. A ghost with bad Karma may scare other Zois, break equipment, take revenge on enemies, or cause accidents. These ghosts must work toward improving their Karma through positive interactions before the option to ascend or attend a funeral becomes available.
Having too many unresolved ghosts lingering in a city also has practical consequences. If deceased Zois are left as unredeemed ghosts for too long, it becomes harder to add new Zois to the city. This creates an incentive for players to help their ghostly Zois resolve their Karma and move on.
Funeral events function similarly to other social gatherings in inZOI. When a player selects the Make Event option on an urn, a funeral is scheduled and other Zois who knew the deceased are invited to attend. The ceremony takes place at the Funeral Home & Columbarium, where attendees gather to mourn and pay their respects.
During the event, Zois may display emotional reactions appropriate to their relationship with the deceased. The v0.4.0 update also improved emotional reactions across the board, making Zois respond more naturally to significant life events including the loss of someone close to them. The funeral provides a structured moment for these emotions to play out.
Collect the urn promptly. After a Zoi dies, visit the Funeral Home to find their urn. Holding the funeral sooner rather than later makes it easier to gather Zois who knew the deceased while the social connections are still fresh.
Enshrine urns for long-term memorials. Using the Enshrine Deceased interaction at the Cemetery gives the urn a permanent home. This is especially meaningful for long-lived households where multiple generations of Zois may pass away over the course of a playthrough.
Let ghosts attend their own funeral. If a Zoi dies with good Karma and becomes a ghost, consider waiting until the three-day ghost period is nearly over before scheduling the funeral. This way, the ghost can choose to attend their own ceremony for a more poignant farewell.
Resolve bad-Karma ghosts. Ghosts stuck in the city due to bad Karma take up population space. Help them perform good deeds and improve their Karma so they can move on, freeing up room for new Zois.
Visit enshrined urns. Living Zois can return to the Cemetery at any time to visit an enshrined urn, express their longing, and honor the memory of the deceased. This can be a nice roleplaying touch for family-focused playthroughs.
