Expanded article with detailed geography, tutorial role, waterways, fast travel, and lore
Springbrook Plains is the first open region players explore in Honor of Kings: World, serving as the primary tutorial area on the continent of Primaera. Located east of Jixia Academy, this wetland region is defined by its network of crystal-clear streams, natural springs, and lush vegetation. Students arriving at the Academy from across the sea make landfall here, and the Springbrook Plains serve as their introduction to the open world of Primaera.
The area is designed to teach fundamental gameplay mechanics in a safe, low-stakes environment. Combat tutorials, movement systems, gathering basics, and UI introduction all take place within the Springbrook Plains. Despite its role as a tutorial zone, the region has a distinct visual identity, with its wetland ecology and scenic waterways setting it apart from the drier grasslands of the neighboring Dreamweave Plains.
The Springbrook Plains spread across a low-lying floodplain fed by numerous underground springs that bubble up through the soft earth. The terrain is predominantly flat, interrupted by gentle banks along the many streams that wind through the region. Wooden bridges and stepping-stone crossings span the wider waterways, and patches of reeds and cattails line the stream banks.
Elevation: the lowest-lying region in the starting area, sitting in a natural basin that collects water from the surrounding hills
Climate: humid and temperate, with frequent morning mists that burn off by midday
Water features: the defining characteristic of the region; dozens of streams, springs, and shallow pools create a lush wetland environment
Vegetation: dense grasses, aquatic plants, willow-like trees along stream banks, and mossy stones
The springs that give the region its name emerge from a network of underground aquifers. The water is described in game lore as being enriched by the Flow, which gives it a faintly luminescent quality visible during nighttime. This subtle glow guides players along paths during the game's night cycle and creates a visually distinctive atmosphere.
The Springbrook Plains function as a structured tutorial zone that introduces the core systems of Honor of Kings: World. Upon arriving by ship, players are guided through a series of introductory quests that cover the following:
Basic movement: running, sprinting, jumping, and climbing are introduced through natural terrain obstacles like stream banks and low ledges
Combat fundamentals: early encounters with passive wildlife and low-level creatures teach attack combos, dodging, and ability usage
Gathering and crafting: players learn to harvest herbs and materials from the abundant resource nodes along the waterways
Navigation: the minimap, compass, and waypoint systems are introduced through quests that direct players to specific landmarks
NPC interaction: dialogue systems and quest acceptance are taught through encounters with Academy scouts stationed throughout the plains
The tutorial is paced to allow exploration between guided segments. Players are free to wander the Springbrook Plains at their own speed, and optional side objectives encourage detouring from the main path to discover hidden areas and bonus resources.
The defining visual and navigational feature of the Springbrook Plains is its extensive waterway system. Streams range from narrow rivulets that players can step across to wider channels spanned by arched wooden bridges. Several of these bridges serve as landmarks referenced in quest directions, making them important orientation points for new players.
A central spring, known locally as the Heartspring, forms a small pool near the middle of the region. This location serves as a gathering point for several early-game quests and is surrounded by stone benches where NPC students rest between lessons. The Heartspring is also the site of the player's first encounter with the concept of the Flow as a tangible, observable force in the world.
Multiple fast travel waypoints are distributed across the Springbrook Plains, making it easy for players to return to specific locations without lengthy backtracking. These waypoints take the form of glowing stone pillars inscribed with Academy symbols. Activating a waypoint for the first time is a simple interaction that permanently unlocks it for teleportation.
Landing Pier: the initial waypoint, located where players first arrive by ship
Heartspring: the central waypoint near the main spring
Academy Gate: the waypoint closest to the road leading north toward Jixia Academy
Eastern Crossing: near the border bridge leading toward other regions
The density of waypoints in this starting zone is higher than in most other regions. This design decision reflects the tutorial nature of the area, ensuring that new players always have a convenient teleportation point nearby as they learn the game's systems.
The Springbrook Plains host the gentlest enemy population in the game. Passive wildlife such as frogs, fish, and herons populate the streams and banks. Aggressive creatures are limited to a few species of low-level insects and small territorial animals that attack only when approached closely. These encounters are specifically tuned for teaching combat fundamentals without punishing mistakes harshly.
Toward the edges of the region, slightly tougher creatures begin to appear, providing a gradual difficulty ramp that prepares players for the content in adjacent zones. This transition is seamless, with no hard boundary separating easy and moderate encounters.
The Springbrook Plains connect to several key areas. To the west, a series of bridges crosses into the Dreamweave Plains, where the landscape transitions from wetland to open grassland. The northern road climbs gently toward Jixia Academy, the central hub for early-game progression. The Landing Pier on the southern edge marks the player's point of arrival and connects to the broader maritime routes of Primaera.
The springs of this region are said to carry traces of the Flow, the fundamental energy that permeates Primaera. Local scholars at Jixia Academy have long studied the springs, noting that the water appears to have mild restorative properties. Whether this is a direct effect of the Flow or simply a result of the region's mineral-rich aquifers remains a topic of scholarly discussion. For the Flowborn, the Springbrook Plains represent a place of awakening, as many newly arrived students first feel their connection to the Flow strengthening here.
