Ur-Shak

Expanded with Orcish language path context
Ur-Shak is an Orc shaman in Gothic 1 Remake. He is one of the named Orcs the Nameless Hero can meet inside the Valley of Mines, and his role lands in the broader context of Alkimia Interactive's expanded orc content for the remake.
Named Orc NPCs like Ur-Shak are what make the orcs feel like a culture rather than a faceless enemy type. The remake leans on that by adding the Orcish Language progression path: a Hero who has learned enough Orcish can speak to Ur-Shak and other named Orcs in ways a non-speaking Hero cannot, which unlocks new dialogue and quest options. Ur-Shak's existence on the pre-release roster is one of the reasons Alkimia commissioned a professional linguist to design the Orcish language from scratch rather than use a placeholder grunt vocabulary.
Ur-Shak fits inside the broader Orc Culture arc the remake is building out. Alkimia has stated that the remake gives the orcs significantly more lore space than the 2001 original, including named shamans, clan distinctions, and a clearer picture of what the orcs actually want from the Kingdom of Myrtana war.
Ur-Shak is voiced in English by Adam Diggle, confirmed in the November 2025 "Voices Across the Colony" behind-the-scenes series. Diggle also voices additional Orc and Colony NPCs in the English cast. See Voice Cast and Localization for the full English cast.
