The Mountain Fortress library has a bookshelf puzzle that opens the fireplace passage into a hidden laboratory. It is part of reaching the upper fortress and its Focus Stone during Chapter 3.
Activate the bookshelves

Use the statue above each bookshelf to identify the correct interaction. After the sequence is entered correctly, the fireplace opens. The clue is the large painting in the dining room immediately before the library: it depicts the same three creatures.
Continue through the laboratory
Enter the revealed passage to reach the hidden laboratory and the route upward. Opening the fireplace does not automatically award all of the fortress treasure. The laboratory chests and upper tower still have their own locks, access requirements, and keys.
The upper route leads toward the Royal Guard Armor, Sword of Victory, Ring of Enlightenment, Storm Fist, and Extract of Dexterity. The top-of-tower chest contains the key needed for the master-bedroom armor chest. Reaching the tower chest also requires Climbing, and Harpies guard the approach.
Continue the Focus Stone quest
The opened route also allows the Hero to reach the cliff containing the fortress Focus Stone. See Focus Stones for its place in the story and Mountain Fortress Chests for separate lock sequences. Keep the bookshelf interaction and chest-opening steps separate when checking what remains to be done.
