Added mage build progression, stat priorities, and recommended runes and accessories
Playing the Nameless Hero as a mage is one of the most rewarding ways through Gothic 1 Remake, but magic is a slow burn: you start with almost no mana and have to climb the Circles of Magic by joining the right factions in the right order. This guide lays out the progression, the stats to prioritize, and the best runes and accessories to aim for.
Learn basic magic in Chapter 1 so you can use early scrolls.
Join the Old Camp in Chapter 1 for access to its mage teachers, or the New Camp for the Water Mage path.
Join the Fire Mages in Chapter 3 to climb the lower Circles.
Join the Water Mages in Chapter 4 for stronger offensive runes.
Learn the 6th Circle of Magic from Xardas in Chapter 5 for the most powerful spells.
Put your early points into Strength so you can defend yourself before your mana pool is large, then pivot hard into Mana. Raise maximum mana from teachers, mana potions, and accessories that boost it. See Magic and Runes for how casting and Circles work, and the full spell list.

Ball Lightning Rune | Found in a chest near the cliffside ruins, east of the Swamp Camp. It is guarded by two Zombies. Requires the 2nd Magic Circle to cast. |
Death to the Undead Rune | Found inside Xardas’ Sunken Tower in the southern part of the Colony. It is in a hidden room deeper inside the dungeon, after passing locked doors and puzzles. Requires the 4th Magic Circle to cast. |
Light Rune | Purchased from Cronos in the New Camp. |
Healing Rune | Purchased from Cronos in the New Camp, or chosen as a reward after learning the Novice Magician skill from Torrez. |
