Forging is the weaponsmithing system in Gothic 1 Remake. Alkimia Interactive has stated that the remake's forging system has been expanded compared to the 2001 original, and the same applies to the adjacent cooking and food-production systems. For a Hero committed to the path, forging is the way to produce custom melee weapons rather than relying on merchant stock.
Deeper crafting recipes. More variety in weapons the Hero can produce compared to the 2001 original's relatively tight recipe set.
Integration with training. Forging is a trainer-taught skill, so learning to forge follows the same experience-spend loop as weapon skills. See Trainers.
Expanded cooking alongside. Alkimia has confirmed cooking is also expanded. The two systems are both production chains that lean on the same "hunt and gather in the Colony, turn it into power" loop.
Arrows for the Bow are produced at the forge or bought from merchants. Keeping an arrow stockpile is practical work for any ranged-oriented Hero, because the remake's combat encounters will burn through them faster than many players expect at the early tiers.
Forging trainers live in the camps. Access varies by camp: the Old Camp has the most direct access because of its ore-trade economy, but the New Camp also has its own forge tied to the Free Mine. Specific forge-trainer identities for the remake will be detailed at launch rather than pre-release.
