The Flaming Torch is the Hero's primary handheld light source in Gothic 1 Remake. Alkimia Interactive has publicly confirmed its specific handling rules through developer responses on the Steam discussion boards, using the Nyras Prologue demo as a reference point.
Held, not sheathed. The torch is always in-hand when equipped. There is no belt or back slot for it.
Dropped on most actions. Drawing a weapon, attacking, or similar committed actions cause the torch to be dropped on the ground.
Must burn out to recover. Once dropped, the torch keeps burning on the ground and cannot be picked up until it has finished. It is not a zero-cost switch.
Light only. The torch does not function as a primary weapon. It exists for navigation in dim spaces rather than as a combat tool.
Dark sections of the Old Mine and other underground areas are where the torch earns its keep. Encounters there with Minecrawlers or Skeleton Mages typically involve a trade-off between keeping the torch lit for visibility and committing to a weapon for combat.
The Nyras Prologue demo includes the torch as one of the early held items the player can use. It is one of the clearest shows in the demo of the remake's attempt to carry over the original's item-handling feel rather than abstract it into a UI toggle.
