Solel is the sun god of the Dagdan pantheon and the sitting ruler of the Dagdan Empire. He holds the title Divine Sovereign, and he governs as regent rather than as emperor in his own right: the empire's founder, Dagda, has fallen into a long slumber, and Solel occupies the throne in his place. He is also the voice that opens the Heroic Games, and the one who sets the prize every competitor is chasing.

Profile

The Japanese title behind Divine Sovereign is 神威法王, Shin'i hōō, which reads roughly as "dharma-king of divine majesty" and carries a religious weight the English shortens. Other localisations keep the sense of the English rather than the Japanese.

Regent of Dagda

The people of Dagda worship the empire's founding king and his descendants as gods. That founder is asleep, and has been for a long time, so the throne passed to Solel as proxy. He is not a caretaker in name only: he rules, he presides over the temples, and the Games themselves are held in tribute to the sleeping founder. Coverage of the August 2026 presentation reported that his stated reason for holding the Games is to stir the sleeping ruler back towards waking through the sacred combat, though that framing comes from preview material rather than from a line in the presentation itself.

His seat in the capital is the temple at the very top of Temple Row, which belongs to the founder and which the Divine Sovereign currently occupies. Lower down, a bronze statue of Solel stands over the seven temples of the other gods, and the approach the crowds walk to reach them passes beneath it.

The Heroic Games

Solel opens the Games in person, from the stands, in front of the whole capital. His declaration is the closing beat of the August 2026 presentation:

"Bold warriors! Draw now upon your strength. Hold fast to the devotion in your beating hearts. For those who stand upon the final stage... I shall grant whatever wish you may desire. So say I, the Divine Sovereign. That, I vow to you. People of Dagsion! Hear me now as I declare that the Heroic Games... have begun!"

That vow is the engine of the whole tournament. Every one of the four Heroes enters for a reason that only a granted wish can settle, and the promise carries weight because it comes from a god who rules an empire. The pre-launch material does not say what claiming the wish involves beyond reaching the final stage.

Appearances in the Story

Solel does not stay on his balcony. A hooded portrait exists for him, described as him in disguise, and the presentation includes a townsperson reacting with alarm to finding him somewhere he should not be: "The Divine Sovereign? Why would someone of your stature be here?" He is also listed among the characters who can be fielded in battle, appearing as a playable unit in a quest shared with Anna, and he carries an affiliation with the temple guard rather than with any of the four Games factions.

He watches the Games alongside other figures of influence, including Iliana, the veiled woman who observes the fights from behind his throne. His personal interests are given as one line on his official profile: he likes board games.
