Certification Exams

Added the three licence class-change items and linked the new Renown page
Certification exams are the route from one class to another in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. Instead of promoting automatically at a set level, a unit sits an exam for the class it wants, and passing it opens that class up. Exams are taken by speaking to an Exam Proctor in Dagsion during the free time between matches of the Heroic Games.
Passing is not guaranteed. The chance of success depends on who is taking the test and the class they are aiming for, so a unit should have the necessary skills before applying. That framing makes the exam a check on preparation rather than a formality: a unit whose weapon ranks are still short of what the target class expects can still sit the exam, but its odds are worse for it.

Reports from the exam screens describe the pass chance rising as the relevant skills close in on the recommended levels, which fits the way the system was described on camera. The exact numbers behind the roll have not been shown.
One Advanced Exam screen has been shown in full, and the spread on it is steep. Dietrich at level 38 reads 55 percent for Bardinger, 25 percent for Dreadnought and a flat 0 percent for Sniper, Forest Knight and Ovate, with three further entries still masked. A zero is not a rounding artefact: a unit that does not meet a class's proficiency grades simply cannot pass its exam, so the list sorts into a small band of realistic options and a long tail that is closed off until the underlying skills come up. The formula behind the percentage has not been shown.
Each class lists its requirements as weapon and mount proficiency letter grades, split into a primary requirement and, for most physical classes, one or two secondary requirements. A magic class can list a primary requirement only. Three sets have been read off the exam menus so far, all of them for Advanced classes.
Class | Primary Requirement | Secondary Requirements |
|---|---|---|
Mounted C, listed elsewhere as Riding | Spear B, Sword B | |
Heavy Armor D | Axe B, Spear B | |
Black Magic B, listed elsewhere as Reason | None listed |
On top of the letter grades, every Advanced class shown so far is reported to want a Renown level of at least 8 and a recommended character level of 35. Renown is a tracked progression stat earned from story progress, quests and helping townspeople, and it gates other things besides classes; it has its own page at Renown. One preview also puts the unlock for Specialty class exams at Renown level 4. Both figures come from single readings of a menu, so they are provisional.
The class-change screen carries a second option alongside the exam: reclassing, for classes a unit has already qualified for. Once a class is certified it stays available, so moving back and forth does not mean sitting the exam again. Hands-on accounts also describe the screen showing how a unit's growth would shift before the change is committed.
Exams share the between-matches window with everything else in the capital, including arena plaza training, the shopping arcade and temple volunteering. Training raises the proficiencies an exam checks, which makes the two activities a natural pair: train first, then certify. See Between-Match Preparation for the wider loop and Classes for the tier structure and the class roster.
The published material does not say what happens on a failed exam, whether an attempt costs time or gold, or whether every unit can reach every class. Requirements for Beginner and Specialty classes have not been shown either, beyond the reported Renown level 4 unlock for the Specialty tier.
Three items sit alongside the exams in published item listings, one for each tier: a Beginner Licence, a Specialty Licence and an Advanced Licence. They are filed as class-change items, which is the category a certification system would use for a consumable that grants or unlocks an exam attempt. No description, cost, source or effect has been published for any of the three as of September 13, 2026, so what they actually do is unconfirmed. They are recorded here because their existence is the clearest sign that reclassing has a resource cost attached beyond the weapon ranks and the Renown level.
Bardinger, Dreadnought and Ovate are the three classes whose exam requirements have actually been read off the menus, and each carries its own data block. For the training that lifts the proficiencies an exam checks, see Between-Match Preparation.
