The Cataphract is an Advanced class in Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave. Nintendo's dedicated presentation summed it up in one line: Cataphracts have the mobility of horses with the defense of heavily-armored units. That combination is the whole point of the class, since armour and reach usually sit on opposite ends of the roster.

Six Movement is the joint highest figure published for any class in the game. The Bardinger and the Specialty-tier Light Cavalry match it, and the Cataphract is the only one of the three that carries armour alongside that reach. Counting as both Cavalry and Armored also means it sits in the target group for anti-cavalry and anti-armour weapons at the same time, which Weapons sets out.
Where It Has Been Seen
Io is the one character shown in the class, in the Advanced-tier rundown during the presentation. No other unit has been placed in it.
The Cataphract does not appear on the certification exam list shown in that same presentation, which named eleven Advanced classes. The Elephant Rider, the Dragoon and the War Monk are absent from it too. In the released game the class is unlocked through a quest rather than being open from the start: on Theodora's path, the Send Supplies quest that asks for 35 Ladon Loach unlocks the Cataphract. There is no promotion ladder here to fall back on: class change in this game runs through Certification Exams rather than through levelling into a promoted form.
What Has Not Been Published
As of September 2026, this wiki has not documented the Cataphract's class skills or exam requirements, and no base stats, growth rates or stat modifiers for it appear in any published material. The unit-type reading above comes from a class screen and is recorded as it was read. See Classes for the wider tier structure.

The other Advanced class that matches its six Movement is the Bardinger. Counting as both cavalry and armoured exposes it to two sets of effective weapons, which are set out on Weapons. For the tier it caps, see Classes.
