As a Dawnwalker, Coen's vampire side comes out at night. His appearance changes — claws extend, and his physical capabilities shift toward the supernatural. These abilities are only available during nighttime gameplay; during the day, Coen relies on his sword and hex magic instead.
Shadowstep is a short-range teleportation ability. Coen can blink forward a short distance, reappearing almost instantly at the target location. In combat, this allows rapid repositioning — dodging attacks, closing distance on ranged enemies, or escaping a surrounded position. Outside of combat, Shadowstep can reach elevated platforms, cross gaps, and access areas that would be unreachable on foot.
Plane Shift lets Coen walk on walls and ceilings. This is a full vertical traversal system, not just a wall-run or wall-jump. He can scale the side of a building, cross along the underside of a bridge, or cling to a cave ceiling. The ability opens up the entire vertical axis of the game world at night, giving access to routes, vantage points, and hiding spots that don't exist during the day.
Coen can bite enemies to drain their blood, restoring his health in the process. This makes night combat inherently more aggressive than day combat — staying on the offensive keeps you alive. The bite also helps manage the blood craving meter, reducing hunger and the risk of losing control.
Vampiric powers are strong, but using them comes with risks. At night, Svartrau and other populated areas have patrols and guards loyal to Brencis. If Coen is spotted in his vampire form by guards or civilians, it triggers consequences — potentially combat encounters, reputation damage, or locked-off interactions. Stealth is not optional; it's part of how you navigate the night.
The combination of Shadowstep and Plane Shift gives players tools for avoiding detection. You can teleport past a patrol's line of sight, climb above them on a rooftop, or move along a wall to bypass a guarded checkpoint entirely.
Vampiric abilities are upgraded through the Vampire skill tree. Skill points earned from leveling up can be invested to improve the range of Shadowstep, the duration of Plane Shift, bite effectiveness, and likely other vampire abilities that haven't been shown yet. There's also a Shared skill tree that benefits both day and night forms.
