Lacra
September 23, 2026 at 07:29 AM
Standardised the spelling Mesmerise and the quest title Song of the Mountain
Lacra is one of the named characters Coen encounters in Vale Sangora. She is defined by a personal mission and goal of her own, a single objective that takes precedence over anything else in her life. That focus is not without cost: her drive often puts her at odds with the people around her, including those who might otherwise be her allies.

The shipped game answers what pre-release material left open. Two independent accounts of the released version describe Lacra as a vampire, and an old one, rather than as a villager. Her hatred of Brencis is her own rather than something she takes on alongside Coen. She wants him gone for her own reasons, which is what makes common ground with Coen possible, and she is described as brutal in pursuit of it. Both accounts place her outside the Vrakhiri court rather than inside it.
Like Anca and Marat, Lacra is not a simple companion or sidekick. She has her own motivations, her own story, and her own impact on Coen's journey. The named characters Coen meets along the way are designed to shape the world around him and make it feel alive, reactive, and deeply connected, rather than simply react to his choices. How Lacra's path crosses with Coen's, whether their goals align or collide, and what becomes of her by the end of his thirty-day race against Brencis are tied to the decisions the player makes within the narrative sandbox.
Community Bulletin Board #8 (June 1, 2026) lists Lacra among the characters Coen can form a relationship with as the story unfolds. The bulletin keeps her description consistent with her earlier reveal: a mysterious woman driven by vengeance who will stop at nothing to reach her goal and who hides an agenda of her own. Under the relationship system the bulletin lays out, a bond with Lacra could open new paths and reveal hidden truths, strengthen Coen, or test his resolve, depending on the choices the player makes around her.
Launch guide coverage sets out the chain of quests that carries Lacra's story, and the independent accounts follow the same order. The quickest way in is in Svartrau: signs of a struggle near the inner walls lead across the rooftops to Lacra, who is questioning an uriash named Nish. The line can also start from a note left on the body of Ambrus once he has been killed, or through Vicho during A Study in Crimson. Because Lacra is a vrakhir, her quests run at night, and the last of them is the quest that closes the game on her route. The detail below is guide-sourced rather than first-party, so quest names are reported rather than confirmed.
Quest | What it covers |
|---|---|
A Friend Like This | The first meeting, and the option to make common cause with her. Questioning Nish patiently, rather than setting him free, is what gets the location of his clan. |
Song of the Mountain | Travel into the mountains to the uriash village, and the question of how far Coen will let her go. Taking the uriashi's test peacefully, rather than fighting, earns the elder's help. |
Hive and Seek | A kobold hive in the caves at Boar's Back, behind the uriash village, where Brencis is reported to have left his own maker, the ancient vrakhir Isbrand, chained up as food for the kobolds. The hive's champion, Chonk the Insatiable, has to be beaten, and a legendary chestpiece, Isbrand's Plate, sits in a chest nearby. Lacra tells Coen here that Brencis turned them both. |
Our Rotten Roots | Her past, offered as memories Coen can decline to look at. The quest takes place in Anachora, among Isbrand's memories, and pressing into the one Lacra asks him to leave alone costs her help for the rest of it. Finishing it is reported to unlock a vampiric ability. |
The Night of Horrors | An optional hunt for another ancient vampire's remains, reported to decide her fate as well as her closeness to Coen. Will-o'-the-wisps lead the pair through a swamp to the lair of an ancient vrakhir, Kallias, where a mandrake grows. A legendary greatsword, The Vrakhir, lies on a corpse in the crypt on the way. |
Midnight Reckoning | The ending route she opens, which she and Coen take into the castle together, leading to The Patricide ending. |
Two warnings recur in the walkthroughs. The Night of Horrors has to be finished before Midnight Reckoning is started, or Lacra meets a bad end and the quest is lost. And eating the mandrake at its end is the choice that matters most: one walkthrough reports that it gives Coen and Lacra a perk that turns a lethal blow into a small recovery once per night, and that this is what later lets her survive Brencis's attack, while another links the mandrake to the Mesmerise ability instead. The achievement Misery Loves Company is tied to finding the mandrake, and The Patricide to defeating Brencis with her.
Coverage of the released game also lists her among the characters Coen can grow close to, alongside Anca and Marat, and says a player is not made to choose only one. That roster comes from post-launch coverage rather than from the studio, so it is best read as the set that has been documented rather than as the complete set. Whether Lacra appears in the closing scenes is reported to depend on finishing her questline rather than on pursuing her romantically.
Lacra was first teased in the January 2026 launch year trailer for The Blood of Dawnwalker, appearing alongside Anca before either character had been named on stream. She received her first proper characterization during the Road to Launch Event on April 28, 2026, where the development team confirmed her name, framed her as a figure with her own mission and personal goal, and noted that this single-mindedness frequently sets her at odds with others. The specifics of her mission, her allegiances, and her relationship to the rest of the cast were intentionally left for players to uncover in the full game.
