Bosses
September 23, 2026 at 07:11 AM
Initial version (2026-09-23)
The Blood of Dawnwalker has no fixed boss order. The fights that matter most are the four vrakhir lords at the top of the valley's regime: Brencis and the three boyars who serve him, Ambrus, Bakir and Xanthe. Around them sits a long tail of quest bosses, most of them guarding a piece of legendary equipment or a story choice. This page collects the named ones documented in walkthroughs of the shipped game as of September 2026. Details that come from a single walkthrough are marked as reported.
The three boyars are drawn out rather than found. Disrupting a lord's operations through the court activities in his or her territory raises that lord's anger on the Court screen, and at the maximum a personal quest opens that ends in a duel. One walkthrough suggests taking them in the order Ambrus, Bakir, Xanthe, since their territories are pitched at roughly level 1, level 20 and level 25. After a boyar falls, Coen can drink the vampire's blood to take an ability outright, and walkthroughs report that he can then choose, in the vampire afterlife of Anachora, whether to invite the boyar into his own mind or leave them to be consumed. See Notoriety System and Vampiric Powers.
Boss | Where Met | What Beating Them Gives |
|---|---|---|
The Gilded Gauntlet, a duel reached by disrupting his blood transports, leech collectors, prisoner transports, blood cellars and dungeons | The Scarlet Shield ability if his blood is drunk, and Ambrus's Cuirass, a legendary chestpiece, from his body. Tied to the achievement The Right Fist of the Knyaz. | |
The Lunar Game at Lunar Manor, a contest that runs through a maze of monsters before the fight with Bakir himself | The Shadowstorm ability if his blood is drunk, his armour from the body, and legendary bracers from his treasury. Tied to the achievement The Mad Khan. | |
The Cycle of Love at her manor, where a lantern puzzle leads to her daughter's room before the fight. One account reports she can also be fought far earlier, at night in Svartrau Cathedral during A Monk and a Saint | The Blood Surge ability if she is killed and drained; sparing her instead puts her in the castle as an adviser. Tied to the achievement The Dark Mistress. | |
Twice at the end of the prologue, then at the end of every full ending route, with the final stage reported to play out in Anachora | Winning in the prologue ends the game at once. In the finale, how he is beaten decides the ending: The Folk Hero alone, The Patricide with Lacra, The Knyazmaker with Crake. See Endings. |
Brencis's second stage in the prologue carries its own name, Brencis, Grotesque Ascendent. Beating both stages there is possible, but by the studio's own account only a couple of people inside the studio managed it.
Most other named bosses belong to a single quest. The table lists them alphabetically; the quest names are covered on Quest List.
Boss | Quest and Place | Reward or Result |
|---|---|---|
Beast of Balaur | The Beast of Balaur, in a cave on Mount Balaur above Parlita | A hellhound boss. A hidden lair above the cave holds the legendary shortsword Gladius and a phial of Brencis's blood (reported). |
Chonk the Insatiable | Hive and Seek, in the kobold caves at Boar's Back behind the uriash village | An oversized kobold fought alongside the rest of the hive. The legendary chestpiece Isbrand's Plate sits in a chest in the same chamber (reported). |
Echo | The Cursed Chasm, among the wreckage at the bottom of the ravine in the Briar Sloughs | A blood-red vidmo that fights beside a wolf pack and can drain Coen's blood at range to heal itself. Beating the group clears the way to the legendary sword Durandal. |
Echoing Anger | Forge It Anew, in the cave near the uriashi blacksmith where the sword is tempered | Fought during the tempering ritual, which produces the Imbued Sword of St. Mihai. |
Georghe, The Rabid Duke | A bandit camp on the eastern edge of the map | Carries the key to the side gate of Greifberg Castle (reported). |
Great Bog Wurm | The Lunar Game, near the end of the maze before Bakir | A tatzelwurm. It drops a Tatzelwurm Gland, a legendary crafting ingredient (reported). |
Mihai, Patron of the Cathedral | A Monk and a Saint, in the crypt beneath Svartrau Cathedral | The Broken Sword of St. Mihai, 1,000 XP and a skill point (reported). One walkthrough recommends level 25 or higher. See Saint Mihai. |
The Almshouse Monstrosity | The almshouse at Svartrau Cathedral | A murohn. Whether it was killed is one of the things the epilogue notices record. |
The Forgotten Guardian | Deep Down, a tomb explored during the prologue | A sword-wielding sentinel that protects the tomb, shown in footage before release. |
The Unblinking Blasphemy | Inside Greifberg Castle on the solo assault | A mandatory fight on the way down to the dungeons. |
A few habits carry across the roster. Night fights hand Coen his claws and vampiric regeneration, which one guide rates as the easier way to take on Ambrus. Timing matters for the boyars' blood: Bakir, at least, cannot be fed on if he is killed during a daytime assault on the castle, which loses his ability for that run. And bosses left alive are not skipped at the end. Any boyar still standing is fought inside Greifberg Castle during the final assault, Ambrus in the entrance hall and Bakir in the dungeon, while a living Xanthe sets a trap sequence in the throne room. See Combat and Directional Combat.
Several fights also bend to earlier choices. Finishing The Bittersweet Toast before The Gilded Gauntlet is reported to let Coen poison the blood Ambrus drinks mid-fight, which stops him healing from his hits. In The Lunar Game, how Coen treats the other contestants decides how many of them he has to fight later (reported). For the creatures behind these fights see Bestiary, and for the gear they guard see Legendary Equipment and Achievements.
