Overview

The Dark Veil is a main quest in Chapter 2: Golden Greed that becomes available after completing all four investigation quests from Where Misery Gathers. Kliff travels to the Goldleaf Tradepost near Unicorn Cliff to investigate the Goldleaf Merchant Guild and meets their leader, Shakatu. This is a brief dialogue quest that transitions the story from the countryside investigations into the final act of Chapter 2, known as the "End of Greed" sub-chapter.

You must complete all four investigation quests before The Dark Veil unlocks. These quests branch from Where Misery Gathers and can be done in any order:

Walkthrough

Travel to the Goldleaf Tradepost

Follow the quest marker to the Goldleaf Tradepost, a market area at the edge of town near Unicorn Cliff. The ride from Springtide Mill takes a couple of minutes heading southeast. The tradepost is a bustling commercial hub with merchants, carts, and guards patrolling the perimeter.

Locate Shakatu

Upon entering the tradepost, look to the left side of the market area. Shakatu is standing with two other merchants. He is the Trademaster of the Goldleaf Merchant Guild and a powerful figure in the Hernand economy.

Speak with Shakatu

Approach the group and initiate dialogue. Shakatu and his associates discuss the problems that have been plaguing Hernand: the bandit activity, stolen livestock, and general lawlessness. Kliff explains what he discovered during the four investigation quests, including the revelation about Kailok the Hornsplitter's involvement. Shakatu listens carefully and agrees to a private conversation to discuss the Goldleaf Merchant Guild's internal politics and how they might help resolve the situation. The quest completes after the dialogue.

Notes

• Like Awestruck earlier in the chapter, this is a dialogue-only quest with no combat, exploration, or puzzles. Its purpose is to set up the chapter's climax.

• Shakatu is a returning character from Black Desert Online, Pearl Abyss's previous game. Long-time fans of the studio will recognize his role as a prominent merchant figure.

• The "End of Greed" sub-chapter begins here, covering the final stretch of quests: The Flames of Greed, Kidnapped Healer, Rebellion or Revolution, and Cheers Echoing From the Edge.

• There are no rewards for this quest. The value is entirely narrative, establishing Shakatu as an ally and setting the stage for the showdown with the Hornsplitter.
