Following the Patch 1.04 pet update, the Pororin Petal Hat functions as a landing perch for smaller flying companions. When the hat is worn by the player, small birds that would normally alight on the player's shoulder or hand will instead settle directly on the flower-decorated crown of the hat, producing a visibly different pose for bird-focused builds.
The behavior depends on the size of the flying companion. Smaller birds such as the Crow (and other light-frame birds in its weight class) perch on the hat. Larger flying companions such as the Phoenix, tamed through the Sighting of the Phoenix chain, continue to roost on the player's arm rather than on the hat, because the hat is simply too small a platform to support them.
This positioning change is purely cosmetic and does not affect the pet's item-collection radius, combat assistance, or trust progression. It also does not override pet follow behavior: the bird still flies off to gather loot drops and then returns to the hat as its resting pose.
Companion | Size Class | Perch Behavior with Hat Equipped |
|---|---|---|
Small | Lands on the hat's floral crown | |
Medium to large | Continues to perch on the player's arm | |
Legendary large | Continues to perch on the player's arm | |
Ground companion | Not affected by the hat. Use the Sigil of Bonding item to keep a tamed cat on the shoulder permanently. |
The Pororin Petal Hat is one of several player-worn items introduced or repositioned in patch 1.04 that directly influence companion positioning. Together they let the player fine-tune where each type of pet rests while following the player around the world.
Sigil of Bonding - Cat-specific shoulder-grip item. When equipped on a tamed cat, the cat remains on the player's shoulder while running, sprinting, and fighting, and only briefly hops down to retrieve loot. Sold by the roaming vendor Lacey, who can be found circling the main road of Pororin Village with a backpack. She also stocks Palmar Pill alongside the Sigil of Bonding.
Sigil of Bond - Distinct from the Sigil of Bonding. A bird-feeder placed on the ground to attract and tame wild birds with food. Required equipment for bird taming and obtained through the Authorized Access side quest. See the Pet Taming Guide for the full feeding loop.
Pet Equipment - Cosmetic and functional gear that can be equipped directly on a summoned pet from the pet inventory tab. See Pet Equipment for the full list and Pet Shop for vendor locations.
For a visual bird build (often called a crow build), pair the Pororin Petal Hat with a tamed small bird companion such as a Crow. The bird lands on the hat instead of on the shoulder, producing a distinctive silhouette that plays well with cloth armor sets.
Do not expect the perching change to apply to the Phoenix. Large legendary birds ignore the hat and continue to roost on the arm, which is intended behavior rather than a bug.
Because the positioning effect activates only while the hat is equipped, swapping to a different headgear piece will immediately send any perched bird back to its default resting spot.
The hat can be stacked freely with the Sigil of Bonding worn by a tamed cat, giving the player a bird on the head and a cat on the shoulder at the same time.
