New Outfits is a planned cosmetic expansion announced by Pearl Abyss in the Developer Roadmap April-June 2026 on April 9, 2026. The update does two things at once: it adds new outfit sets to the game for playable characters, and it converts several existing items that today can only be sold or donated into proper wearable gear. Together the changes grow the Character Customization wardrobe meaningfully without adding standalone monetized cosmetic drops.
Overview
Crimson Desert launched with a broad but finite outfit catalogue. Players who collect gear across regions eventually run into a consistent pattern: several items described as outfits, costumes, or festival wear exist in the world but can only be handled as trade goods. The item card labels them wearable in flavor text, but the actual equip action is not available at launch. These items typically end up sold to vendors or donated to faction trust systems for reputation rewards.
Pearl Abyss acknowledged community frustration around this pattern and committed in the April to June 2026 window to retrofit the equip action onto many of these items. The publisher also pledged new outfit sets in the same window, spreading the cosmetic growth across three complementary directions: new drops, retrofitted legacy items, and expanded equipment slots for outfits that previously occupied only one slot.
New Outfit Sets
The roadmap confirms new outfits for playable characters but does not yet list specific set names. Based on existing pattern and Pearl Abyss's history with live-service updates, new outfits are expected to cover multiple thematic categories: regional looks tied to Pywel's five major regions, seasonal or festival wear, faction-themed gear, and possibly partner collaborations if any are announced before the window closes.
Outfit sets in Crimson Desert span multiple slots: headgear, body armor, gloves, footwear, and cloaks. A full new set therefore adds five or more individual items to the Wardrobe container planned in the same roadmap. Existing outfits like the Shadowleaf Outfit, Camouflage Outfit, Uniform Cat Outfit, and various Puppy outfits illustrate the slot coverage that new sets are expected to match.
Conversion of Sell-Only and Donation Items
The more distinctive part of the update is the retrofit. Pearl Abyss wrote that “certain outfits that can only be sold or donated will be updated so that they can also be worn.” Today these items typically show up in the inventory with a portrait that looks wearable but without an equip action. In practice, they feed the vendor economy and the faction reputation system, and once sold or donated they are gone.
The planned change gives players the choice to wear these items instead. Existing copies in the inventory and in any future Wardrobe container should inherit the new equip action automatically once the update ships, turning what were effectively vendor trash into fully functional cosmetic gear. Players who have already sold or donated these items will need to reacquire them through normal drop tables or faction rewards, since the conversion does not retroactively refund past sales.
Integration With the Wardrobe
The cosmetic update is closely tied to the Wardrobe, which is also planned in the April to June 2026 window. The Specialized Storage System introduces the Wardrobe as a dedicated container for headgear, armor, gloves, footwear, and cloaks. Every new outfit and every retrofitted legacy item is expected to fit directly into that container, giving players one organized place to browse, swap, and preview their expanding wardrobe.
The practical workflow becomes: collect an outfit through drops, quests, or the converted legacy route; deposit it in the Wardrobe; then equip it through the outfit selector without manually moving items through the main inventory. This pairing is why Pearl Abyss placed both features in the same roadmap window.
Related Customization Features
The outfit update is one part of a broader Character Customization expansion covered in the same roadmap. The Hide Back Weapons toggle addresses visible Weapons display on the character model during exploration and cutscenes, and the Weapon Display Options feature from Patch 1.03.00 already provides finer control over melee and ranged weapon visibility. Together these controls let players pair their outfit choices with the clean character silhouette that new cosmetics are designed to show off.
Release Window
New Outfits are placed in the April to June 2026 window. Pearl Abyss did not name specific outfit set titles or release dates. Because the cosmetic update depends on the Wardrobe container for full value, the outfits are likely to roll out in the same patch or in patches immediately adjacent to the Wardrobe's launch.
