Add rhino farming source from YouTube transcript (D2M656Snnsc): Crimson Desert region rhinos as best source, specific spawn location, 2-4 per rhino drop rate, secondary location northwest of Ordava
Ivory is a rare upgrade material in Crimson Desert obtained by hunting large animals, primarily elephants. It is classified alongside large bones and thick hides as a crafting material used in high-tier gear refinement, particularly for accessories and heavy armor. Ivory cannot be mined or gathered from the environment; it must be harvested from animal carcasses by skinning them after defeating them in combat.
Property | Value |
|---|---|
Type | Material (Animal Product) |
Category | Crafting and Refinement Materials |
Obtainable Via | Hunting and skinning large animals |
Primary Source | Elephants (northern Crimson Desert region) |
The best source of Ivory is from elephant herds found in the northern Crimson Desert region, along the road toward Varnia. This area contains multiple elephants that roam in groups. Each elephant, when killed and skinned, drops Ivory, large bones, tough meat, and thick hide. The elephants in this area respawn, making it a farmable location for repeated visits.
Community testing has identified rhinos in the Crimson Desert region (the northeast area of the map) as the best source of Ivory. The most reliable spawn location is just northeast of the letter S in "Crimson" on the world map. Each rhino yields 2 to 4 Ivory when skinned, which is a very efficient rate.
A secondary cluster of rhinos can be found northwest of Ordava, though the game may restrict access to this area depending on story progression. The northeast Crimson Desert location is the more consistently accessible of the two.
Rhinos are a faster and more focused source of Ivory than elephants if you only need the material for a specific recipe. For example, Olvalt's Logging Axe requires 15 Ivory, which can be gathered from roughly 4 to 8 rhinos at the northeast spawn point.
Large horned animals found in certain areas across Pywel can also drop Ivory and large bones when killed and skinned. However, elephants provide the most consistent and highest quantity of Ivory per kill.
When skinning an elephant, the typical loot includes:
Item | Approximate Quantity |
|---|---|
2-3 | |
Large Bones | 4-6 |
2-4 | |
Tough Meat | 2-3 |
Using the King's Dagger (a skinning knife with a bonus chance for additional hide drops) may increase the thick hide yield when skinning.
Elephants are quite tanky and have high HP. Expect prolonged fights without proper preparation.
Use the Mining Knuckledrill approach of maximizing gathering tools: the King's Dagger gives bonus hide drops when skinning, similar to how the Knuckledrill gives bonus ore.
The elephant area in northern Crimson Desert is a late-game zone. You will need to progress through the main story before this region becomes comfortably accessible.
Elephants roam in groups. Take them on one at a time if your build is not strong enough for multiple targets.
