Horse Items are equipment and consumables for your horse mounts in Crimson Desert. They fall into two main categories: tack (permanent equipment that boosts your horse's stats) and feed (consumable items that restore your horse's health or stamina). Horse tack can be purchased from Saddlery Vendors found near stables throughout Pywel, or crafted from materials. Feed items are obtained from vendors, gathered from the world, or crafted.
Each piece of horse tack provides a bonus to one or more of the following stats. Understanding these stats helps when choosing which equipment to prioritize for your mount.
Stat | Effect | Sources |
|---|---|---|
Health | Increases the horse's maximum health pool, making it harder to kill during combat or environmental hazards. | Saddles |
Health Regen | Passively restores the horse's health over time, measured in points recovered per second. | Stirrups |
Attack | Boosts damage dealt during mounted combat charges and trampling attacks. | Champrons, Horseshoes |
Stamina Regen | Increases the rate at which the horse recovers stamina, allowing more frequent sprinting and dodging. | Horseshoes |
Defense | Reduces incoming damage to the horse from enemy attacks and environmental sources. | Barding |
Tack is permanent equipment that you attach to your horse to improve its stats. Tack is divided into four equipment slots: saddle, stirrups, champron (head armor), and horseshoes.
Saddles increase your horse's maximum health pool, making the mount more durable in combat and during long rides.
Saddle | Effect | Description |
|---|---|---|
Shabby Horse Saddle | Health +25 | A travel saddle made of leather, softened by years of use with quilted padding. |
Delmar Saddle | Health +50 | A sleek, polished brown leather saddle with a high pommel and cantle featuring a sharp yet classic silhouette. |
Stirrups provide passive health regeneration to your horse over time, helping it recover during and between encounters.
Stirrups | Effect | Description |
|---|---|---|
Crude Stirrups | Health: +10 every 1 sec | Crudely hammered from rough cast iron with visible rust patches and signs of neglect. Despite their poor appearance, they provide basic passive healing that keeps your horse topped off between fights. |
Hernandian Stirrups | Health: +30 every 1 sec | Heavy-duty stirrups crafted in Hernand for mountain mobility, preventing foot slipping during combat or on steep terrain. The +30 Health/sec regeneration is triple the rate of Crude Stirrups, making this the strongest passive healing option for your horse. |
Champrons are pieces of head armor for your horse. They increase your horse's attack power, boosting the damage dealt during mounted combat charges.
Champron | Effect | Description |
|---|---|---|
Hernandian Champron | Attack +7 | A silver plate with golden borders. The horn symbolizes divine majesty, and the blue feathers represent the cliff winds of Hernand. |
Horseshoes improve your horse's attack power and stamina regeneration, making the mount more effective in mounted combat.
Horseshoes | Effect | Description |
|---|---|---|
Shabby Horseshoes | Attack +1, Stamina +1 every 1 sec | Silver horseshoes forged for durability, designed for Hernand's rugged terrain. |
Silver Iron Horseshoes | Attack +2, Stamina +2 every 1 sec | An enhanced version of the Shabby Horseshoes with improved durability. |
Barding is a special type of horse armor that provides a defensive bonus. Barding is categorized as a Contribution Good, meaning it is only available to players who have earned sufficient contribution points through community activities.
Barding | Effect | Description |
|---|---|---|
Hernandian Barding | Defense +20 | Ceremonial barding crafted by master artisans of Hernand. Combines elegance and functionality with intricate detailing that references Solumen symbolism. This is a Contribution Good, available only to players who have earned sufficient contribution points through community activities. |
Feed items are consumables that restore your horse's health or stamina. They can be purchased from vendors, gathered from the environment, or crafted. Using feed at the right time can keep your horse alive during tough combat encounters.
Feed | Effect | Description |
|---|---|---|
Sugar Beet | Small health recovery | A root vegetable with red flesh, favored by horses for its crisp texture and sweetness. |
Sugar Cubes | Health recovery | Treats made by refining pure sugar, with intense sweetness that horses love. |
Hay | Moderate health restoration | Nutritious fodder dried thoroughly in the sun with a pleasant aroma. The most familiar horse food. |
Horse Tonic | Pushes health to extreme | A thick potion brewed from rare herbs, granting exceptional toughness to endure deadly blows. |
Horse Stimulant | Amplifies stamina to maximum | A pungent elixir that forcibly awakens a horse's wildness, granting tireless strength. |
Horse tack follows a clear progression from basic to advanced. Early in the game, players receive or can purchase shabby-tier items that provide minimal bonuses. As the story progresses and more regions become accessible, higher-quality tack from regional artisans and specialized vendors becomes available.
Early Game: Shabby Horse Saddle (+25 Health) and Shabby Horseshoes (+1 Attack, +1 Stamina/sec) are the first items most players obtain. Crude Stirrups (+10 Health/sec) round out the starting set.
Mid Game: The Delmar Saddle (+50 Health) doubles the saddle bonus. Silver Iron Horseshoes (+2 Attack, +2 Stamina/sec) replace the shabby pair. Hernand-crafted stirrups (+30 Health/sec) provide a substantial healing upgrade.
Late Game: The Hernandian Champron (+7 Attack) and Hernandian Barding (+20 Defense) are gated behind contribution and quest progress. The Hernandian Barding in particular is a contribution reward, so building reputation through community activities is essential for maximizing your horse's defensive capability.
When upgrading, prioritize saddle and stirrups first for survivability, then horseshoes for mounted combat damage. Champrons and barding are powerful but come later in progression.
Certain horse tack sets are available exclusively through pre-order bonuses or special editions of the game. These cosmetic and functional sets provide unique visual styles for your mount. Some tack pieces can also be recolored through the Dye System.
Exclaire Horse Tack Set: Includes barding, saddle, stirrups, and champron. Available as a pre-order bonus.
Hyperion Horse Tack Set: An additional tack set available through special edition bundles.
Saddlery Vendors: Found near stables in major towns like Hernand Town. They sell a variety of tack equipment.
Crafting: Some tack can be crafted using materials gathered from the world. Visit a blacksmith to check available recipes.
Vendors: General vendors and feed merchants sell horse feed items like Hay, Sugar Beets, and Sugar Cubes.
Quest Rewards: Certain quests reward horse items upon completion.
World Drops: Sugar Beets can be found growing in fields and gardens throughout Pywel.
Equip the best tack you can afford whenever you upgrade. Higher-quality saddles and stirrups significantly improve your horse's survivability.
Keep a supply of Hay and Sugar Cubes in your inventory for quick health recovery during combat.
Horse Stimulant is especially useful before long journeys across the open world, as it restores stamina to maximum.
Horse Tonic should be saved for boss fights or dangerous encounters where your mount's survival is critical.
The Hernandian Barding requires contribution points to purchase, so focus on building your contribution if you want the +20 defense bonus.
Mounted combat damage is affected by both Kliff's weapon and your horse's attack stat from champrons and horseshoes.
The Dye System allows you to customize the color of certain horse tack pieces, letting you match your mount's gear to your character's outfit or personal style preferences.
Refer to the Horse Guide for detailed information on horse taming, bonding, and training alongside tack management.
When exploring dangerous territory, bring at least three Hay and one Horse Tonic. Hay handles gradual damage, while the Tonic serves as an emergency full heal if your mount's health drops critically low.
