Hernand Lodgings is the player's temporary rented sleeping quarters inside the City of Hernand during the early chapters of Crimson Desert. It is the first indoor rest and storage point players gain inside a city and holds a bed, a Private Storage chest, and the fixed save point that the early story keeps returning to. The lodgings were formally named by Pearl Abyss in Patch 1.00.03 as one of the two initial anchor points for the new Private Storage system, alongside the Greymane Camp at Howling Hill.
Overview
Before the protagonist settles into the longer-term camp further north, the Hernand Lodgings work as a miniature home base. A bed inside the room lets the player sleep to skip time and recover, the attached chest gives a permanent place to deposit items the inventory cannot hold, and the room can be reached in seconds from the City of Hernand's main market district. The lodgings are scripted into the opening chapters of the game, so players do not need to purchase them or complete a specific quest to unlock access.
The room is small and functional rather than customizable. It does not accept decorations, cosmetic furniture, or cooking stations, and it is not shared with other players. It is best thought of as a safe corner of the world where the game's time and storage systems meet.
Location
The Hernand Lodgings sit in the center of the city, near the tailor's shop, smithy, and equipment shop. The entrance is part of the building block that also hosts the Hernand Tavern, and players moving between the two typically use them as a paired stop: rest and store at the lodgings, then eat or pick up a quest at the tavern next door. From the Abyss Nexus northeast of the Saddlery and Stable, the lodgings are a short southern walk along the main street.
Inside, the layout is a single rented bedroom. A bed sits against one wall, a small table and chair face a narrow window, and the Private Storage chest stands in the corner near the doorway, within a step of the bed. The setup is intentionally tight so that the Private Storage chest is the first interactable object the player sees when walking in.
Services
The two primary services provided by the lodgings are sleep and storage. Sleeping on the bed lets the player skip time to morning, noon, evening, or night, which is useful for triggering merchant schedules, world events, and specific nighttime quest steps. Sleeping also restores Health and Stamina to full and clears certain status effects.
The Private Storage chest in the room gives the player 240 deposit slots at launch, scaling up to 1,000 slots as the Greymane Camp is upgraded. Because the Private Storage system is a single shared pool, items deposited at the lodgings are available at the Greymane Camp chest and vice versa. This means early-chapter players who rely on the lodgings for storage do not lose access to their items when the story moves north; the same items simply appear in the Howling Hill chest.
Unlike a vendor shop, there is no currency cost to enter the room or to use the chest. The lodgings are tied to the main story and do not need to be rented again when the player returns in later chapters.
Role in the Early Story
Chapters 1 and 2 use the Hernand Lodgings as the protagonist Kliff's in-city base. Several of Hernand's side quests and main-story beats lead the player back to the lodgings to rest, change the time of day, or drop off collected items. The room also functions as a narrative checkpoint: scripted cutscenes use it when the story needs a calm indoor beat before moving Kliff back into the field.
Once the story pushes out of the city and the Greymane Camp is established at Howling Hill, the camp takes over as the primary hub. The Hernand Lodgings remain accessible throughout the campaign but see progressively less use as more powerful storage, crafting, and training facilities unlock at the camp.
Patch 1.00.03 Private Storage
The Hernand Lodgings are one of the two locations Pearl Abyss named when formally introducing the Private Storage system on March 23, 2026. The exact quote from the Patch 1.00.03 notes reads: “Added the Private Storage that can be used to store items from your Inventory. The Private Storage is located at the initial temporary lodgings in Hernand and at the Howling Hill Camp.” Before this update there was no manual item deposit box in the game at all, which meant the lodgings had no functional storage role; after the update, the chest that now sits in the corner of the room became one of the most visited interactables in the city.
