Medusa is one of the three bosses holding a key to the Catacombs gate in Castlevania: Belmont's Curse, and the one preview accounts reached last. Konami's character material describes her as a monster with the body of a giant serpent whose gaze has turned countless people to stone. The game also calls her the prophetess, and she claims to see the future.

Reaching Her
Her arena sits under a graveyard, and the route in is one of the clearest examples of how this game gives direction without a waypoint. It runs down a hole beneath a tree, past a giant fountain, and into ancient Roman baths in yellow and green, described by an in-game line as a whole world beneath the feet of Paris, overthrown by time and forgotten by dirt.
A ghost marks the entrance rather than a marker does. One spirit tells a tragic story about seeing someone dragged under the roots of a cursed tree, which is the tree. In the preview build four clues existed for this boss and it was possible to fight her having found only three. See Ghosts and Clues.
The approach is filled with Medusa Heads, which drift in from the screen edges in a predictable wavy pattern and petrify on contact. Being petrified is escapable by waggling the analogue stick. They are listed with the rest of the roster on Enemies.
The Fight
Hers is the largest and most multi-stage of the three fights anyone outside the team has played.
Attack | Behaviour |
|---|---|
Clawed swipe | Close-range strikes from her arms. |
Tail thrash | A sweep from the serpent body. |
Hair lasers | Fired from the snakes of her hair. |
Death ray | A near instant-kill beam that covers the screen. |
Petrifying gaze | Her signature. Turns Rose to stone. |
Countering the Gaze
The gaze is the one attack in the preview build that a dodge does not answer. The counter is to turn Rose's back on it, not to roll through it, which makes it a facing problem rather than a timing problem. A ghost states the rule outright: look away when Medusa is about to meet your gaze. Invincibility frames and the rest of the defensive kit are covered on Combat and Controls.
Rewards
Reward | Type | Notes |
|---|---|---|
A petrification Arcana | Spell | Turns enemies to stone. Konami has not published a card name for it, so none is given here. |
A sword and shield | Weapon | Described as the kind Perseus would have carried. The sword and shield family is the only one with a defensive property: the shield guards and absorbs incoming hits. See Weapons. |
A Catacombs key | Key item | One of the three that open the gate. |
After the Fight
Absorbed bosses become voices Rose can speak with, and in most cases what answers is the version of that character from before the corruption. Medusa is the exception among the three that have been played. She stays antagonistic, keeps insisting she can see what is coming, and wants Rose to fail. Set against The Fallen, who is amiable, and Joan of Arc, who is openly helpful, she is the evidence that the companion layer is written per character rather than as a single reward state. How the deck works is on Arcana System.
Voice Cast
Track | Performer |
|---|---|
English | Melique Berger |
Japanese | 大久保藍子 |
Konami announced the English cast on August 24, 2026. Japanese performers are credited in kanji only on the game's Japanese character page, so no romanisation is given here. The full cast is on Characters, and the rest of the roster is on Bosses.
