ANANTA (formerly Project Mugen) is a free-to-play urban open-world RPG published by NetEase Games and developed by Naked Rain, a studio under NetEase Games with a major office in Montreal and a team of roughly 700 to 800 people. The game is set in Nova City a coastal metropolis about the size of Manhattan, where the player investigates supernatural incidents tied to Chaos as captain of the A.C.D. task force.
The name "Ananta" comes from Sanskrit, meaning "without end" or "infinite." It was publicly revealed at Gamescom in August 2023 under the codename Project Mugen then rebranded in late 2024.
What Has Been Shown
Based on trailers, the TGS 2025 hands-on demo, and the first Closed Beta Test (January 16-20, 2026, PC only, China region), ANANTA mixes hand-to-hand combat with open-world exploration, vehicles, a Crime System similar to GTA, and a heavy emphasis on optional city activities. Players assemble a four-person team and can switch characters on the fly, each with their own job, combat style, and personal story. Movement includes Spider-Man-style grappling and wall-running with no stamina bar.
Chongxiao was revealed on August 25, 2026 as the game's second city, presented as the place the Captain is from and reached from Nova City by plane. The same announcement published official pages for five locations across the two cities and added Shi Ye and Yinglong to the named cast.

Platforms and Release
ANANTA launches globally on January 15, 2027. The date was announced at Gamescom 2026 Opening Night Live and carried onto the game's official site the same day.
Confirmed platforms are PC, PlayStation 5, iOS, and Android. On PC the game ships both through a dedicated client and on Steam, where the store page went live with the announcement. PlayStation 4 appeared in early announcement materials but has since been dropped from updated platform lists, so its status is uncertain. Xbox has never been confirmed. See Platforms and System Requirements for the full breakdown.
Pre-registration is open across PC, console, and mobile, and the official counter passed 18 million shortly after the release date was announced and had passed 22 million by early September 2026. Milestone rewards have been published for both the pre-registration count and the official social media follower count; see Golvent and Currencies for what they contain.
Four storefront listings are live: Steam, a PlayStation Store concept page still marked as announced with no date of its own, the App Store, and Google Play. The Epic Games Store has no listing. The PlayStation page adds PS5 Pro Enhanced to the platform picture. See Platforms and System Requirements for what each listing states.
Monetization
ANANTA is free-to-play. NetEase has confirmed there is no character gacha; all characters are obtainable through gameplay. Revenue comes from cosmetic purchases: outfits, vehicle skins, and housing furniture. A season pass is under consideration but not finalized.
