Status effects in AION 2 are grouped into three families, Impact-type, Mental-type and Ailment-type, and most of the counterplay runs through one skill every class shares, Defiance (충격 해제), and the Tenacity state it grants. This page collects the game-wide rules from NCsoft's official guidebook and the Korean service's patch notes. Effect and skill names are the global client's English names, with the Korean alongside in the tables. Each class's crowd control skills are listed on its skill page; see Classes.
Effect Families
The February 11, 2026 patch, which made Theostone procs use the status effect hit and resistance stats, spelled out the families:
Family | Korean | Effects |
|---|---|---|
Impact-type | 충격계 | Stun. On January 7, 2026 the grab states of three class skills (the Gladiator's Mocking Blade, the Chanter's Wave Blow and the Assassin's Shadow Fall) were reclassified as Impact-type, and Defiance can be used when hit by them. |
Mental-type | 정신계 | Seal |
Ailment-type | 육체계 | Paralyze, Blind, Root, Slow (movement speed reduction) and combat speed reduction |
Defiance and the shared resistance passives also deal with Knockdown, Airborne, Frost and Fear, and the notes and the client name further states such as Grab, Sleep, Polymorph, Taunt, Knock Back and Pull. Since March 4, 2026 the detail stat screen groups status stats by family, and an unused Petrification stat was dropped from it.

Class-Specific States
State | Class | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Fire Mark | Sorcerer | Extra fire damage taken; applied by every fire attack on the Korean service since September 16, 2026 (the global client data of September 18, 2026 still lists a 20% chance) |
Frostbite and Embers | Sorcerer | Water or fire damage over time from Cold Storm and Fire Wall that grows while the target moves |
Curse | Spiritmaster | Damage over time; the target deals 10% less damage to the Spiritmaster |
Corrode | Spiritmaster | Damage over time; the target takes more damage from spirits |
Exposed | Chanter | Block and Evasion lowered by 5,000 (Fracturing Blow specialty, since July 1, 2026) |
Healing reduction | Several classes | Lower healing received, for example Firestorm's specialty or the Cleric's Voice of Doom; some of these do not stack with each other |
Defiance and Tenacity
Defiance (충격 해제) is a skill every class learns at character level 16. It removes Stun, Knockdown, Airborne, Grab, Frost and Fear and grants Tenacity (강인함), which is status effect immunity, for 5 seconds; its cooldown is 60 seconds in the client data and is unaffected by cooldown reduction. In the client data its first specialty adds a class-specific follow-up skill for every class except the Brawler. Its history on the Korean service:
Date | Change |
|---|---|
December 3, 2025 | Its follow-up skill's cooldown drops by two seconds per skill level |
December 17, 2025 | Removed the 2,000 HP cap on the third specialty's recovery |
December 24, 2025 | First specialty's damage tolerance raised from 20% to 30%; second specialty became a 1,000 Stamina recovery |
January 28, 2026 | First specialty's damage tolerance raised from 30% to 50% |
February 11, 2026 | Can also remove Frost and Fear; its Impact-type resistance became general status effect resistance |
May 13, 2026 | Tenacity can no longer be removed by skills that strip beneficial effects, and its +100% status effect resistance became full status effect immunity |
July 8, 2026 | The follow-up that used to be part of the skill became a specialization option, and the PvE and PvP damage tolerance bonus during Tenacity moved to a different specialization slot |
July 29, 2026 | No longer affected by cooldown reduction |
August 12, 2026 | Fixed its cooldown not resetting when content such as Nightmare or the Battlefield resets cooldowns; for the Cleric and the Chanter, the third specialty's HP recovery was cut from 20% to 10% as part of their healing rework |
Resistance and Immunity Rules
Every class has one of two shared resistance passives at level 23: Survival Willpower (Gladiator, Templar, Cleric, Chanter) or Revitalization Contract (Assassin, Ranger, Sorcerer, Spiritmaster, Brawler). Since March 25, 2026, being hit while under Stun, Knockdown, Airborne, Frost or Fear grants +10% status effect resistance for five seconds, stacking up to ten times; Survival Willpower also raises damage tolerance and Revitalization Contract restores HP at 10% HP. Their base status resistance has been 17% at level 1, plus 2% per level, since April 29, 2026.
Impact Hit, a passive shared by the Gladiator, Templar, Assassin, Chanter and Brawler, gives 12% Impact-type hit chance at level 1, plus 1.2% per level, according to the April 29, 2026 note.
Invincibility and undying effects from certain survival skills (Tenaciousness, Salvation and Barrier Spell among them) cannot apply again within 30 seconds of either one applying (since March 25, 2026).
A character who has just entered stealth is not revealed by hits for the first 0.5 seconds (since April 29, 2026).
Riding a wind path grants immunity to movement-control effects (since April 29, 2026).
Guards posted at major bases (주요 거점) carry a status effect immunity buff and detect stealth (since November 21, 2025).
Spirits summoned by a Spiritmaster are immune to status effects (since March 4, 2026).
Removal and Theostones
Buff removal strips invincibility (since January 28, 2026). Food and drink buffs cannot be removed (since July 29, 2026).
Status effects inflicted by Theostones, except Paralyze and Stun, can be cleansed with a healing potion, and Theostone effects end on death (since January 14, 2026). The same patch lengthened the cooldown of twenty-one Theostones from 5 to 15 seconds, and on February 4, 2026 several status Theostones got shorter durations.
Theostone status effects and status effects applied by characters do not stack (since June 10, 2026).
Status effect Theostones have an internal cooldown on their proc checks, and their proc cooldown fell from 15 to 5 seconds on August 26, 2026.
The Impact-type resistance scroll became a general status effect resistance scroll on January 28, 2026, adding protection against Frost, Fear, Sleep, Seal and Polymorph to the Root and Airborne protection added on January 14.
Cleansing
Several class skills remove debuffs: the Cleric's Radiant Recovery removes one and Absolution up to two, and the Chanter's Recuperation removes one by default (since April 22, 2026), with specialties that remove more. Since April 29, 2026 the Sorcerer's Hibernation and the Cleric's Salvation also clear damage over time effects when used.
Incapacitated Immunity
Bosses and some other targets have Incapacitated Immunity (행동불가 면역), so control effects do not land on them. Skills that normally need a stunned or knocked-down target, such as the Gladiator's Overhead Slam or the Chanter's Wave Blow, instead have a 7% chance to become usable when attacking such a target; on January 7, 2026 this became part of those skills' base effect, and several Stigma specialties add damage against Incapacitated Immunity targets. See Stagger Gauge for how bosses are opened up instead.
Status Chance and Resistance
Intelligence raises status effect hit chance and Willpower raises Status Effect Resist, according to the official guidebook, and both also come as family-specific stats (Impact-type, Mental-type and Ailment-type chance and resistance). Skills that inflict a status effect on an NPC usually land it at 100%, as their tooltips state. See Character Stats for the full stat list.
Blocking
Blocking ignores status effects. Since the March 25, 2026 rework, shield classes ignore status effects on a shield block or perfect shield block, and every other class on a weapon block or perfect weapon block. See Combat and Skill Chains for how blocking works.
