Stagger Gauge

Initial version (2026-10-06)
Bosses in AION 2 have a stagger gauge (그로기 게이지). Skills deal stagger gauge damage on top of their normal damage, and when the gauge is filled the boss becomes staggered (그로기 상태) for a short time: it stops what it is doing, loses some protective effects, and opens up a set of skills that only work on a staggered target. The global client's English text calls the gauge damage Stagger Gauge Damage and the state Stagger.
Every skill's tooltip lists how much stagger gauge damage it deals. In the global client data the values fall into a few bands:
Skill type | Typical stagger gauge damage | Examples |
|---|---|---|
Basic and chain attacks | 0 to 5 | Ice Chain 2, Firestorm 5, Dimensional Control 5 |
Crowd control and core skills | 7 to 20 | Blaze 7, Bittercold Wind 10, Soul's Cry 15, Glacial Smite 20 |
Charge skills | 20 to 35, rising with charge level | Hellfire, Bolt |
Heavy Stigma strikes | 50 | Divine Burst, Power Burst, Obliterate, Jointstrike: Destructive Attack |
Some skills and specialties are built around the gauge. The Templar's Taunt gained 20 stagger gauge damage on December 17, 2025, and a specialty of one Templar skill was changed to add 50; on December 3, 2025 two Ranger traps gained stagger point reduction. Since January 21, 2026 charge skills deal more stagger gauge damage at higher charge stages, and Jointstrike: Destructive Attack applies all of its stagger damage on the first hit. Individual values are retuned in balance passes: the Chanter's Spinning Strike went from 15 to 10 on August 26, 2026 and back to 15 on September 2, 2026.
Each of the classes below has a mastery skill, learned at level 5, that can only be used on a staggered target:
Class | Skill | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Gladiator | Sword Aura Rampage | Damage on a staggered target within 4 meters |
Sorcerer | Flame Scattershot | Fire damage on a staggered target within 20 meters |
Spiritmaster | Rapid Scattershot | Damage on a staggered target within 20 meters |
Cleric | Lightning Strike Scattershot | Damage on a staggered target within 20 meters |
Chanter | Gust Rampage | Damage on a staggered target within 4 meters |
The Chanter's Raging Spell passive also adds damage against targets that are staggered or under an Impact-type effect. For the other classes' staggered-only skills, see each class's skill page from Classes.
Since December 10, 2025, a boss that becomes staggered loses effects such as damage reflection and damage absorption.
Stagger can interrupt boss skills. On December 3, 2025 NCsoft lowered the stagger needed to interrupt one of Bakarma's skills, and a December 10 fix stopped a Deus Research Base boss's knockback from going off after its skill had been interrupted by stagger.
Some boss patterns lock the gauge on purpose, so it cannot be filled until the pattern ends. Several Korean update notes fix gauges that locked when they should not have, or failed to lock when they should.
Since December 3, 2025 a screen effect with sound marks a boss becoming staggered.
Combat and Skill Chains for the shared combat loop. Status Effects for crowd control, which bosses with Incapacitated Immunity ignore. Dungeons for boss fights. The class skill pages, such as Sorcerer Skills, list every skill's stagger gauge damage.
