Soul Inscription and Soul Binding
October 7, 2026 at 12:00 AM
Added inscription rate and Soul Codex rules, the official option odds of a Hero greatsword, automatic tuning and Philosopher's Stone: Truth; renamed Tuning Stones to Sync Stones
Soul Inscription is the random-option layer on AION 2 equipment, and Soul Binding is the system that adds one extra option on top of it. NCsoft's English announcements use both names. The rules below come from the Korean and Taiwanese service. NCsoft's global launch rewards already include Philosopher's Stone: Revelation, the Soul Binding material, but as of October 2, 2026 NCsoft has not published global costs.
Each piece of gear rolls a set of Soul Inscription options from its own pool. A Unique weapon rolls four; the craft-only Genesis and Nemesis Dragon Lord weapons and guards come with six base options. Each option also has an inscription rate, and options can be strengthened, tuned and reset. Since April 22, 2026, gear with no Soul Inscription at all cannot use the Integrated Enhancement menu, so inscribing a piece is the first step of investing in it.
According to the official guidebook, unbound equipment is Soul-Inscribed automatically the first time it is equipped, which binds it to the character, and a higher inscription rate means higher option values. A Soul Codex (영혼의 서) raises the inscription rate: each attempt rolls a random rate from 1 to 100 percent and never lowers the rate the item already has, so repeated attempts push it up to 100 percent. A Soul Codex: Reset wipes the inscribed options and rolls new ones. The number of options an item gets on its first inscription is fixed per item: three to five on the Unique weapons checked, four to six on Hero weapons, and six on the Hero Draconic lines.
Soul Codexes come from Transcendence Odyle Energy Cubes (since February 11, 2026), Hidden Cubes, attendance events and material conversion: 10,000 Kina and 200 Enhancement Stones make one, one Philosopher's Stone and 200,000 Kina make 50, and Daevanion Crystals convert into 20 each since April 22, 2026. The stack limit rose from 1,000 to 10,000 on December 24, 2025.
The pool depends on the item. On a Unique Gladiator greatsword it includes Might, Precision, Attack, Accuracy, Critical Hit, HP, MP, Combat Speed, Status Effect Chance, Multi-hit Chance, Critical Attack, Back Attack, Front Attack, Block, Damage Boost and Weapon Damage Boost. The frontal stats arrived with Chapter 1 on July 1, 2026, which added frontal damage boost, damage resistance, attack, defense, critical and critical resistance stats and made them available through Soul Inscription, pet Genus Insight and manastones. On May 13, 2026, the shock accuracy option on Guards was changed to status effect accuracy.
NCsoft publishes the chance of every option for every item. On the Hero-grade Eungryong Dragon Lord Greatsword (응룡왕의 대검; provisional English name), which rolls six options, the published chances are:
Option | Value range | Chance per roll |
|---|---|---|
Critical Attack | 52 to 67 | 6.4% |
Accuracy | 68 to 85 | 6.4% |
MP | 153 to 183 | 6.4% |
HP | 306 to 359 | 6.4% |
Precision | 81 to 100 | 5.6% |
Attack | 32 to 44 | 5.6% |
Critical Hit | 37 to 50 | 5.6% |
Back Attack | 52 to 67 | 5.6% |
Front Attack | 52 to 67 | 5.6% |
Block | 57 to 73 | 5.6% |
Might | 81 to 100 | 4.8% |
Multi-hit Chance | 9.75% to 11.28% | 4.8% |
Combat Speed | 13.77% to 15.91% | 3.2% |
Weapon Damage Boost | 14.92% to 17.23% | 3.2% |
Status Effect Chance | 22.95% to 26.46% | 3.2% |
Damage Boost | 6.19% to 7.19% | 1.6% |
One of twelve Gladiator skills, +1 level | Skill level +1 | 1.666% to 1.668% each, 20% in total |
Skill options only roll skills of the wearer's own class, the same option never appears twice on one item, and an item can hold at most as many skill options as its listed maximum. Because options already on the item drop out of the pool, the in-game odds of a reroll differ from the published first-roll odds; the reroll window shows the current ones.
Armor rolls from a defensive pool instead, including Defense, HP, Status Effect Resistance, Defense Boost, natural HP and MP recovery and directional defense, and accessories from a pool that includes Intelligence, Evasion and Flight Time; see Armor and Accessories. On January 21, 2026 weapons and Guards gained a Damage Boost reroll option, and each armor slot gained four slot-specific options such as Regeneration on the Top and Weapon Damage Tolerance on the Cloak.
Tuning (조율) rerolls one inscribed option into a random different one; the option currently in the slot is excluded from the result (February 25, 2026). It is done from Integrated Enhancement, Soul Inscription, Tuning, and it consumes Sync Stones (조율석; the global client's item name), which come in Unique and Heroic grades, or another item of a set grade as the material. Since September 23, 2026 an automatic mode keeps tuning until one of the target options you choose appears or the materials run out, and the tuning cast time is shorter. Earlier versions of this page called the material Tuning Stone.
Material conversion recipe | Ingredients | Added |
|---|---|---|
Sync Stone (Unique) | 12 Sync Stone Fragments (Unique) and Kina | December 17, 2025 |
Sync Stone (Heroic) | Sync Stones (Unique) | December 17, 2025 |
Sync Stone (Unique) | One Unique Gear Change Voucher | January 7, 2026 |
Sync Stone (Heroic) | Gear Change Voucher: Ludra | January 21, 2026 |
Sync Stone (Unique) | One Unique-grade item | April 8, 2026 |
Sync Stone (Unique) | 30 Sync Stone Fragments (Unique) | April 22, 2026 |
Sync Stone (Heroic) | 10 Sync Stones (Unique) | April 22, 2026 |
Sync Stone Fragments come from Expedition Odyle Energy Cubes, whose fragment payout was doubled on February 11, 2026, from the Transcendence Abyssal Horn Den cubes since July 15, 2026, and from the reward chests of the Chapter 1 field bosses. Sanctuary bosses have also dropped whole Unique Sync Stones, and Chalice of Muspel cubes give two Heroic Sync Stones since June 10, 2026. Wing enhancement consumes Unique Sync Stones too, so the two systems draw on the same supply. Since June 10, 2026 items and Sync Stones spent on tuning by mistake can be recovered once a year through item recovery.
Soul Binding was added on February 11, 2026. Once the Soul Inscription rate of a Unique or Hero-grade item reaches 100 percent, you can bind it to add one more option. The new option is picked at random from the options that item can roll, never duplicates one the item already has, and arrives at a 100 percent rate. It can then be strengthened, tuned or reset like any other option, although tuning or resetting it rerolls that 100 percent rate.
Item grade | Philosopher's Stone: Revelation | Kina |
|---|---|---|
Unique | 2 | 1,000,000 |
Hero | 2 | 1,000,000 |
Unique gear received as a quest reward cannot be bound.
A Soul Binding option is not carried over by succession. If the source item has an inscription identical to the target's bound option, that inscription is left out of the transfer.
Philosopher's Stone: Revelation comes from Expedition Conquest (Normal and Hard) Odyle Energy Cubes, from the guaranteed rewards of two Expedition Conquest dungeons since March 11, 2026, from Citadel of the Fallen Daeva Conquest cubes since July 8, 2026, and from converting Sealed Philosopher's Stones.
The May 27, 2026 update added Philosopher's Stone: Power, which NCsoft's English announcement describes as enabling Soul Binding for the Genesis and Nemesis Dragon Lord equipment and other gear. Ten Philosopher's Stones: Revelation convert into one Power, and since August 19, 2026 a recipe also converts Power back into Revelation. On September 9, 2026 a third stone followed: ten Philosopher's Stones: Power convert into one Philosopher's Stone: Truth (현자의 돌: 진리; provisional English name), added alongside the [진] tier of Genesis and Nemesis Dragon Lord gear.
The stones began as a sealed item. The January 21, 2026 update put Sealed Philosopher's Stones in the Season shop and in Expedition Conquest cubes and said they would later open an extra Soul Inscription slot; Soul Binding is where they ended up, since Sealed Philosopher's Stones convert into Philosopher's Stone: Revelation.
Succession moves Soul Inscription along with enhancement and breakthrough. The January 21, 2026 rules handle slot mismatches: if the source has more slots than the target, a random subset of its options transfers; if the target has more, every option transfers into random positions and the target keeps its own options in the spare slots. A value above the target item's maximum for that option is cut to the maximum, and a value below its minimum is raised to the minimum. A successful transfer also resets the target's tuning attempt count.
