AION 2's economy runs on two currencies, and the relationship between them is the single most consequential design decision in the game's business model.
Currency | Where it comes from | What it buys |
|---|---|---|
Kina | Earned through gameplay | The currency of the Market , crafting fees, repairs, most in-world transactions, and some convenience items |
Quna | Bought with real money, or acquired from another player through the Exchange | Shop items, the Premium Track of a Daeva Pass , and other Quna-priced products |
Quna and Kina convert into each other through an exchange that runs entirely between players. One player lists Kina for sale, another spends Quna to buy it. NCsoft has been explicit that the game itself makes no listings and no purchases on that exchange, which means the rate is set by players rather than by a published conversion.
The practical consequence is the one players care about: Quna bought with money can become Kina, and Kina earned by playing can become Quna. A player who never spends can still reach Quna-priced content by selling Kina, and a player who spends can convert into the in-game economy.
Using the Exchange requires an active Membership. So does trading on the Market.
Not all Kina is tradeable. The Korean and Taiwanese build has progressively split it, adding bound Kina in March 2026 and then converting the Kina earned in several dungeons into bound form during July and August 2026. Bound Kina spends on fees and vendors but does not move between players, which is NCsoft tightening the tap of tradeable currency flowing out of instanced content.
The currency is Kina. The original AION's currency was Kinah with an h, and a handful of early English write-ups carried that spelling over. NCsoft's own English material and every current source use Kina, and this wiki follows it.
Quna is the premium currency. The Membership product is separately called the Special Quai Membership, without the n. They are two different words and the similarity is not a typo on either side.
The Market for where Kina is spent between players. Monetization and Memberships for the Membership and the shop. Odyle Energy for the other resource that gates content. Getting Started for what a new player actually needs.
