The Journal is AION 2's quest log. It lists the missions a character can take and the ones already finished, and it is where every kind of quest in the game is tracked, from the main story to repeatable Duties. It opens from the Journal icon at the bottom right of the screen or with the J key. The global client uses the same name: NCsoft's global maintenance notices refer to the Journal and to its Duty tab.
Finishing a mission pays experience, currency or items. The official Korean guidebook sorts the quests into four tabs, and the game data behind them (client data dated September 18, 2026) holds 1,314 quests across both factions.

Tab | What it lists | Typical rewards |
|---|---|---|
Episode | The main story: each faction's chain of episode quests, called Hero Quests in NCsoft's global notices. | Experience and currency as the base reward, with some items as an additional reward. |
District | The quests available in the region you are in. | Daevanion Crystals, Daeva tokens (데바의 증표; provisional English), inventory cube expansions, and in some cases equipment or a title as the additional reward. |
Duty | Duty quests taken from the Journal itself and from Duty Scroll items. See Duty Quests. | Special rewards that vary per mission; players report that each mission shows the odds of its rewards. |
Ascension | Trial quests that promote the character to its next stage (각성 in Korean). | Access to new content; progress is tracked on the Daeva Gauge. |
Each tab has sub-categories. Selecting a quest shows its name, its acceptance and clear conditions, its base and additional rewards, and buttons to view its location on the map or to travel there.
The client data files the same quests under finer labels than the four tabs. The counts below cover both factions.
Type | Count | Shown under |
|---|---|---|
Story | 181 | Episode |
Ascension | 10 | Ascension |
Exploration | 204 | Field sites such as Strongholds and Sealed Dungeons |
District | 122 | District |
Duty Mission | 206 | Duty |
Duty Scroll | 577 | Duty |
Gathering & Crafting | 12 | Gathering and crafting mastery |
Daeva Gauge | 2 | Ascension |
Ascension quests are a kind of test: passing one promotes the character, and each promotion opens new content. Progress toward the next one is shown on the Daeva Gauge. The gauge rises as the character completes episode quests, district quests, Strongholds and Sealed Dungeons and other hidden content in the world; clicking it shows exactly which conditions remain. When the gauge reaches 100% the next Ascension quest triggers, and the gauge resets to zero.
The Ascension chain itself is the Path of Ascension, five quests given by Asahr at the Dream Crossroad at levels 5, 22, 32, 45 and 49. The full table is on Hero Quests.
Clicking a quest, or pressing Alt plus the quest's number, sends the character toward the quest objective automatically. Players point out a faster route for district quests: the map icon next to the Journal's move button opens the quest's starting point on the world map, where a nearby Kibelisk can be picked for a teleport.
Teleports have been built into quests as well. The Chapter 1 update of July 1, 2026 added teleports to some quest steps in Poeta, Verteron, Ishalgen and Altgard on the Korean and Taiwanese service, eased the difficulty of the Verteron and Altgard episode and district quests, and started showing teleport conditions on the world map and minimap. On the global service, the October 4 to 5, 2026 maintenance added a button to the Quest Tracker that teleports a character to Verteron or Altgard while it is progressing through the Poeta or Ishalgen Hero Quests, for players who could not otherwise travel there. See Travel and Teleportation.
The global service opened with a Journal fault: a character that checked the Duty tab before reaching level 45 could not use Duties on reaching 45 until the following day. NCsoft listed it as a known issue during Advance Access and scheduled the fix for the October 4 to 5, 2026 maintenance, which also fixed quests that could not continue after the client closed mid-quest.
Hero Quests for the story chains. Duty Quests for the repeatable missions. Achievements and Titles for the separate achievement log. World and Regions for where the quests take place.
