Item Grades

Every item in AION 2 carries a grade. The official guidebook lists six: Common, Rare, Epic, Unique, Hero and Special. A higher grade generally means a rarer item, and for equipment the grade also sets how far a piece can be enhanced, whether it can go through breakthrough, how many manastone slots it has and how many Soul Inscription options it rolls. The figures on this page come from the Korean service's official item database, guidebook and probability tables, checked on October 7, 2026.
The English names below are the ones the global client uses in item names, for example Amplify Stone (Heroic) and Nahma's Merit Chest: Epic. NCsoft's English announcements write the top equipment grade as Hero-grade, and this wiki uses Hero; the client's item names print the same grade as (Heroic). Earlier versions of this wiki called the Korean 전승 grade Fabled; the global client calls it Epic.
Grade (English) | Korean | Order | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
Common | 일반 | 1 (lowest) | Enhances to +5 |
Rare | 희귀 | 2 | Enhances to +10; the first Pendants, Belts and Amulets are Rare quest rewards |
Epic | 전승 | 3 | Enhances to +15; the crafted Brooches and Seals are Epic |
Unique | 유일 | 4 | Enhances to +15, then five breakthrough stages |
Hero | 영웅 | 5 (highest equipment grade) | Written (Heroic) in global client item names; enhances to +20, then five breakthrough stages |
Special | 스페셜 | Separate | The two Runes and the wings that carry no owned effect |
The official enhancement probability table sets the enhancement cap of every weapon, armor and accessory by grade. Breakthrough, which adds five more stages after the cap, is only offered on Unique and Hero gear, using an Amplify Stone of the matching grade.
Grade | Enhancement cap | Breakthrough |
|---|---|---|
Common | +5 | No |
Rare | +10 | No |
Epic | +15 | No |
Unique | +15 | Five stages, using Amplify Stone (Unique) |
Hero | +20 | Five stages, using Amplify Stone (Heroic) |
Grade also sets the sockets and the size of the random option pool. In the official item database, Unique weapons have four manastone slots and one Theostone slot, and Hero weapons have five manastone slots and one Theostone slot. On the weapons checked, a Unique piece rolls three to five Soul Inscription options on its first inscription and a Hero piece rolls four to six, with the Draconic crafted Hero lines at six.
Steps up to +10 always succeed. From +11 the chance falls to 65, 50, 35, 25 and 20 percent for steps +11 to +15, and Hero gear repeats the same five chances for +16 to +20. Each failure adds 5 percent to the next attempt at that step and the item is never destroyed. The Runes are the exception: they are Special grade, enhance to +10, and a failed attempt from +2 upward destroys the Rune.
Pendants follow their own track. Rare and Epic pendants stop at +10, while the Unique Draconic Pendant enhances to +20 with falling chances, using Balaur's Essence and, from +11, Radiant Balaur's Essence and Amplify Stones (Unique).
Each item has a base item level, and enhancement adds more item level on top. Examples from the official item database show how the grades and families stack:
Image | Item | Grade | Base item level |
|---|---|---|---|
| True Dragon Lord Greatsword (진룡왕의 대검) | Unique | 70 |
| Wise Dragon Lord Greatsword (명룡왕의 대검) | Unique | 86 |
| Splendent Jeokryong Dragon Lord Greatsword (빛나는 적룡왕의 대검) | Unique | 108 |
| Ludra's Blade of Extinction (루드라의 절멸도) | Hero | 98 |
| Eungryong Dragon Lord Greatsword (응룡왕의 대검) | Hero | 108 |
| Genesis Dragon Lord Greatsword (창룡왕의 대검) | Hero | 128 |
| [진] Splendent Genesis Dragon Lord Greatsword ([진] 빛나는 창룡왕의 대검) | Hero | 154 |
Advanced Succession carries a Unique item's enhancement and Soul Inscription onto a Hero item of the same slot (the guidebook says part of the progress transfers: +1 to +15 stay as they are and Unique breakthrough stages 1 to 5 become Hero +16 to +20); see Succession Crafting and Enhancement and Breakthrough.
Items come in bound (각인, Bound in global item names) and unbound versions, and the guidebook says the two do not differ in effects or stats. A bound item belongs to the character and cannot be sold on The Market. Unbound equipment is Soul-Inscribed automatically the first time it is equipped, which binds it. Some equipment binds as soon as it is obtained, and since June 10, 2026 Transfer Crafting only accepts gear bound to the crafting character.
The global client data that this wiki reads for English names (client build dated September 18, 2026) contains Common, Rare, Epic, Unique and Heroic items, but it does not contain the Korean service's Hero-grade Draconic lines or any Brooch, Pendant or Seal items, and in it Ludra's Blade of Extinction is a Unique item rather than Hero. As of October 7, 2026, NCsoft had not published a global equipment roadmap, so the Korean grade ladder above is the reference for now.
