Duty quests (사명 in Korean) are AION 2's repeatable missions, the daily and weekly work that pays special rewards outside the story. They are taken in two ways: from the Duty tab of the Journal, and from Duty Scroll items. The game data labels the two kinds Duty Mission (206 entries) and Duty Scroll (577 entries) across both factions.
On the global service Duties open at level 45: NCsoft's global notices describe the Journal's Duty tab becoming available when a character reaches that level.
Kind | How you get it | Notes |
|---|---|---|
Duty Mission (임무) | Offered in the Journal's Duty tab | Can be refreshed for a different mission. The tab shows up to 15 missions at once since July 1, 2026. |
Duty Scroll (지령서) | Bought from directive merchants in the territories | Purchase limits count per server since April 8, 2026. |
Abyss directives (어비스 지령서) | Bought from the Abyss directive merchants | Abyss duties; on April 8, 2026 new Chaotic Middle Reshanta duties replaced the ones from the old middle layer. See PvP and the Abyss. |
Wanted orders (수배령; no official English name yet) | A duty type that spawns a target monster | Targets show on the minimap (fixed December 10, 2025); the spawn sequence was shortened on March 25, 2026. |
Some duties are harder than others. At launch, when only five duties could be held at once, player guides warned that a hard one, such as a field boss kill or a high-grade Abyss directive, could sit unfinished and block the next day's missions, since missions and scrolls count against the same limit. On December 17, 2025 NCsoft changed some Verteron and Altgard Duty Scrolls that asked for field boss kills into ordinary monster kills and collection, and the limit has since been raised.
Rule | On the Korean and Taiwanese service |
|---|---|
Duties in progress at once | 5 at launch (official guidebook); raised to 10 on January 21, 2026 and to 20 on April 1, 2026 |
Refresh | Replaces a mission with a new one. Up to 50 refreshes a day, free at set intervals, after which further refreshes can cost currency |
Duty Mission completions | 5 a day, reset daily. Since April 22, 2026 the count is shared by all characters on the server rather than tracked per character |
Duty Scroll purchases | Counted per server since April 8, 2026 |
Territory weighting | Since August 12, 2026 the board offers more duties from the territory that suits the character's level |
Spacetime Rift: Domination | While taking part (since September 16, 2026), characters cannot phase into wanted-order duties |
Players report that every duty shows its possible rewards with their odds, so the same reward can appear on two missions at different chances. Launch-era player reports listed rewards such as Odyle Energy, challenge tickets, Enhancement Stones, Abyss Points and Key: Hidden Cube; the challenge tickets and Small Odyle Energy were removed from duty rewards on April 8, 2026 (see the table below). Player guides rank the key among the most valuable duty rewards because Hidden Cubes opened with it pay out the rarer items.
Date (Korean service) | Change to duty rewards |
|---|---|
November 22, 2025 | Abyss Points added to duty and directive rewards |
December 3, 2025 | Fixed Asmodian duty and directive rewards that were set to the other faction's items |
February 4, 2026 | Cogni, Fera, Natura and Varian Special Soul Crystals added |
March 25, 2026 | Lower chance of Key: Hidden Cube appearing among mission and scroll rewards |
April 8, 2026 | Duty Scroll rewards other than equipment doubled. Unknown Fissure Challenge Tickets and Small Odyle Energy removed; Soul Crystals and Amplify Stone Fragments (Unique) added |
April 22, 2026 | Duty Mission rewards other than equipment doubled |
September 16, 2026 | Soul Crystals from duties and Duty Scrolls tripled |
October 7, 2026 | Duties in Verteron and Altgard now pay the same rewards as duties in Eltnen and Morheim |
Duty Scrolls are sold by directive merchants in each territory. Player guides describe a weekly routine of buying a territory's allowance of scrolls in Verteron or Altgard and, since the Chapter 1 update, a second allowance in Eltnen (sold in Lacephin Village) or Morheim (sold on Kromede's Island); the number per week is player-reported and not stated in NCsoft's notes.
Journal for the quest log. Hidden Cubes for what the keys open. Abyss Points for the PvP currency duties pay. Hero Quests for the story chain that leads to level 45.
