Power and Electricity
September 15, 2026 at 08:09 AM
Initial version (2026-09-15)
Power exists in Zeverland as a set of working parts rather than a taught system. Generators, wiring and lights were all present in the second pre-alpha tech test, and on 2026-06-27 the studio confirmed that the build shipped with no tutorial explaining any of them. Power hardware is placed inside a shelter, so it sits on top of Base Building and inherits the same claim rules.
This is one of the thinner systems in the published record. What follows is everything the studio has said about it.
The studio ran a daily bug board through the second test week, and light and generator power failures appear on it as a logged issue. A separate report on the same boards had items and the microwave becoming unusable inside a territory. The studio did not publish a cause for either. Everything in that build was wiped when the test closed on 2026-07-02, so the behaviour above is a record of one pre-alpha build and not a description of how power will work. See Second Pre-Alpha Tech Test.
Nights are dark on purpose. When players said they could not see, the studio answered on 2026-06-26 that dark nights are by design and pointed at the light sources available in that build:
Torch
Helmet lamp
Flashlight
Rechargeable batteries were announced on 2026-06-27 as something coming later, described as an alternative to depending on lamps. That is announced work, not a feature of any build that has been played.
Some workbenches run on fuel, which makes them the other half of the game's energy layer. Feeding them was a friction point during the second test, and the studio agreed to three changes at the end of June 2026: automatic extinguishing when a job finishes, a target duration you can set in advance, and skipping excess fuel instead of burning it off. All three were announced during the test week and none has been shown since. The benches themselves are covered on Crafting and Modification.
Item | Status |
|---|---|
Power system | Named as a refinement target on the July 2026 Roadmap. The roadmap gives the line and no detail. |
Solar panels | Listed as a vehicle roof module on the same roadmap. See Vehicles and RVs. |
Rechargeable batteries | Announced 2026-06-27 as coming later. |
Water purification | Heavily requested after the first tech test and called highly likely for the following test on 2025-11-17. |
Water cycles and rainwater collectors | Promised for the next build on 2026-06-29. |
The water lines belong here because they are utility infrastructure rather than survival items: purification and collection are things you build and run, while drinking is covered on Survival Needs. None of the five rows above has been played publicly, and as of 2026-08-03 the studio had no date for the next playtest.
A microwave is confirmed as a placeable, usable item. Its only documented appearance is the second-test bug that made it unusable inside a territory, which is an odd way for an item to be confirmed but a definite one. What it is used for is not documented beyond the obvious link to Cooking.
