Zeverland was revealed in November 2024 and has been in visible development ever since, with two pre-alpha tech tests, two published roadmaps and one significant change of direction. What follows is the dated record.
Reveal (November 2024)
The game arrived with a teaser trailer and a press release in late November 2024. On 2024-11-24 the studio described it on its own video channel as an "SOC game" built on squad cooperation and an interactive experience in which everything can be modified. That framing, everything is interactive and common sense is your best weapon, has survived every later change. The project then went quiet for most of a year.
The First Tech Test (November 2025)
Recruitment opened on 2025-11-01 with a long FAQ, asking for more than two hundred testers. The test ran from 14 to 17 November 2025 under an NDA and was wiped at the end; the full operational record is on First Pre-Alpha Tech Test.
Midway through recruitment, on 2025-11-09, the game passed 100,000 Steam wishlists and the studio added twenty extra test slots to mark it. Shortly after the test, on 2025-11-21, a roadmap video appeared covering 2026 and part of 2027, listing controller support, more device models, vehicle modding and additional languages. That is the earlier of the game's two roadmaps, as explained on Roadmap.
The Quiet Stretch (January to June 2026)
The first Fireside Chat community letter, published 2026-01-21, was the only substantial update for months. It covered a refactored cooking system built for free-form ingredient mixing, a modular firearm prototype in which accessories change a weapon's tactical use, more than ten types of random roadside incident placed across the map, an art log explaining that Zeds keep the traits of whoever they were before the outbreak, and the cooperative megaprojects the studio wants players to build together.
The Second Tech Test and the Pivot (June to August 2026)
Sign-ups were announced on 2026-06-12 and the test ran for seven days from 25 June to 2 July 2026, this time with no NDA and with public streaming allowed. It drew 8,000 survivors, and it went badly enough that the studio's closing post on 2 July reads as an apology. The details are on Second Pre-Alpha Tech Test.
What followed was the biggest change in the game's development. The July 2026 roadmap moved Zeverland from a pure massively multiplayer game to a buy-to-play survival-crafting cooperative game with solo support, doubled down on cooperation over conflict, and promised vehicles built out as mobile homes. On 2026-07-15 the game passed 300,000 wishlists, and on 2026-07-17 the studio summarised the new direction as a cooperative survival-building game where everyone survives together.
The second Fireside Chat on 2026-08-03 filled in the specifics: servers are hosted by the studio whether official or private, player versus player content is set aside, three building features had been completed in a month, and key locations can no longer be claimed as private territory on official servers.
gamescom 2026 and After
A gamescom 2026 gameplay trailer went up on the official video channels on 2026-08-28. It never appeared in the Steam announcement feed, which is why it is easy to miss. The showing itself was a booth with appointment demos rather than an Opening Night Live slot, and the trailer landed three days after that event. At the booth the studio cited more than 370,000 wishlists and more than 40,000 community members.

Current Status
Zeverland has no release date. The Steam listing says coming soon, and as of 2026-08-03 the studio said the next playtest date had not been finalised and that it was heading into a long stretch of heads-down development. No first-party post announces a demo date or an Early Access date. Anything circulating on that subject came out of gamescom booth conversations rather than an announcement.
