The Worn-Out Pistol is equipped at the start of the game alongside the Broken Blade and the Torn Doublet. Like the other starter gear, it is not craftable, lootable, or purchasable once lost.
The Worn-Out Pistol is famously described in community guides as "utterly inert until you craft gunpowder." The player carries the pistol from minute one, but without Gunpowder to load it, the pistol cannot fire. Gunpowder is crafted from Sulfur and Charcoal at the Workbench, which typically requires a cave-mining trip and a Charcoal Kiln first.
Most players upgrade to the Uncommon Pistol (10 Wood + 5 Copper Ingot at the Weaponsmith Workshop) within the first two to three hours of play. The Uncommon Pistol's 360 displayed Pierce damage makes it significantly stronger than the Worn-Out Pistol even before any talent investment.
