Truffle
Truffle is a named boar companion in Windrose, summoned to the player's side using the Legendary Boar Whistle earned from the ancient altar quest in the Foothills. Truffle is a reusable combat pet, not a one-shot summon and not a mount. The whistle is not consumed on use; once the altar quest is complete, Truffle can be resummoned on a cooldown whenever the player wants a Blunt-damage ally in the field.

How to Get Truffle
Truffle is obtained by completing the Boar Whistle altar quest. The altar sits on a small island in the Foothills region, near the Brethren of the Coast waters (the exact map position varies with the procedural seed). Reaching the altar requires a seaworthy ship, which comes online after I Need a Bigger Boat. The altar accepts two offerings:
20 Meat, typically farmed from the wolves around the altar.
3 Relics, one from each of the three ancient chests in the ruined buildings flanking the altar statue.
Placing all offerings on the altar completes the ritual and grants the Boar Whistle. The whistle stays in the player's inventory as a Legendary consumable that is not consumed on summon.
Combat Role
Truffle's signature trait is Blunt damage. Blunt is a separate damage category from the Pierce and Slash most early and mid-game player weapons deal, and it is excellent at breaking enemy poise. Against bosses and Senkamati elites with high Stagger Defence, Truffle's pressure helps open windows for the player's damage weapon:
Against Plague Berserker, Plague Crusher, and the Senkamati Giant family, Truffle's Blunt hits chip posture and force stagger windows that a solo player would otherwise have to create.
Against Blackbeard pirate-crew pulls, Truffle serves as a second aggro target, splitting the attention of Sergeants and Musketeers so the player can finish priority targets.
Truffle's raw per-hit damage is moderate, not a heavy hitter. The value is the poise-break contribution plus aggro control, not burst damage.
Level Locking
Truffle's level is fixed at the moment the altar is completed. If the altar is completed at player level 9, Truffle is a level-9 companion for the rest of the save, with no scaling. The practical consequence is that rushing the altar early in a playthrough gives a perpetually weak companion; players who want Truffle to remain useful through the endgame should hold off on the altar until at least mid-Foothills progression.
Co-op Behavior
In co-op, each player completes the altar independently and carries their own Boar Whistle. Each whistle has an independent cooldown, so a full party of four can rotate Truffle summons to keep a companion active continuously during long boss engagements. This is one of the few fully stackable player-power items in the launch build.
If Truffle Dies
If Truffle is defeated mid-fight, the whistle stays on cooldown. When the cooldown completes, the player can resummon. The pet does not have a permanent-death penalty and the quest does not need to be redone.
