Added flavor text, Item Info table, loot/vendor confirmations, progression notes, and pairing with Swamp Pickaxe
A Swamp Axe that can handle anything, even cursed trees.
Swamp Axe is the endgame axe in Windrose. Its item description flags it as a chopper designed to handle anything the world throws at it, including the cursed trees that populate the swamp and Arborum biomes. It replaces the Iron Axe at the top of the axe ladder and is crafted at the Weaponsmith Workshop rather than a standard Workbench.

The Swamp Axe is a craft-only endgame tool. It is not surfaced as a guaranteed drop from any current loot table, and the ingredient chain is expensive enough that farming for one would not outpace simply crafting it.
The Swamp Axe is not bought or sold by any vendor. The tool is exclusively crafted at a Weaponsmith Workshop Lvl 3.
Chop cursed trees inside the swamp and Arborum biomes that lower-tier axes cannot damage effectively. These trees are the gated node for Arborum-tier hardwood and specialty drops.
Continue to chop Wood and Hardwood at the highest rate in the game thanks to 300 Durability, the largest pool on any axe.
Emergency melee fallback with 255 Crude ATK. Identical damage per swing to the Iron Axe; the upgrade is entirely about durability and biome access, not hit power.
The Swamp Axe sits behind the most expensive upstream chain of any tool. Ingot Arborum is a late-game alloy that depends on swamp biome resources, and a Weaponsmith Workshop at Lvl 3 is a significant base-building investment on its own. The recipe also asks for twice the Hardwood of any earlier axe (10 Hardwood versus 5 Wood), so the raw material commitment is heavier than the tier jump suggests.
It is primarily a convenience tool for long sessions of woodcutting in Arborum territory, since the Iron Axe already covers Hardwood for every pre-swamp biome. If Arborum is not on your roadmap, the Iron Axe remains a valid endgame axe for soft Wood and Hardwood chopping.
Most players craft the Swamp Axe and the matching Swamp Pickaxe in a single trip to the Weaponsmith Workshop, since both share the same recipe pattern (5 Ingot Arborum + 10 Hardwood) and tier gate. If Ingot Arborum is rationed, craft the pickaxe first: mining hardened swamp rock is the more common bottleneck in the late game than chopping a handful of cursed trees.
Keep an Iron Axe in a backup chest for soft Wood trips outside Arborum. Swamp Axe ingredient costs make it too expensive to burn on Coastal Jungle Wood runs.
Cursed trees often cluster near Arborum POIs, so plan Swamp Axe sessions around a combat loadout rather than a pure gathering run.
The Durability gap between Iron (200) and Swamp (300) is the largest on the axe ladder. If you see yourself cutting ten or more cursed trees per session, the tool pays for itself in avoided re-crafts.
