Ship Design: Brethren's Ketch is a Recipe Papers item that unlocks the Brethren Ketch, the vicious 8-gun Ketch variant of the Brethren of the Coast. The Brethren Ketch trades the Stock Ketch's lighter hull for a tougher frame: more HP, slower top speed, and the same three primary cannons.
Reading the design adds the Brethren Ketch recipe to your Shipwright menu. The recipe persists across deaths; the paper is consumed.
Property | Value |
|---|---|
Hull class | |
Faction variant | |
8 guns (description); 3 primary 12-pounders per Ketch hull | |
Hit points | 65,000 (highest of the three Ketch variants) |
Top speed | 17 knots |
Trade-off | Slower than Stock Ketch (19 kn) and Blackbeard Ketch (21 kn) |
The Ketch is the entry hull, and its three variants keep the same three primary cannons while shifting the balance between hit points and speed.
Variant | Top Speed | Durability | Role |
|---|---|---|---|
Ketch (Stock) | 19 knots | Baseline hull | Cheap starter ship and all-rounder |
17 knots | 65,000 HP, highest of the three | Durability upgrade that shrugs off chip damage | |
21 knots | Lighter frame | Fastest Ketch, built for running |
Sold by the Brethren of the Coast Provisioner at a mid-tier Brethren reputation. The Brethren Ketch design is cheaper than the Brig and Frigate equivalents, so it is usually the first faction-locked ship a new Brethren-aligned player can afford.
Treat the Brethren Ketch as the durability upgrade for the Stock Ketch: same combat profile, more buffer when a fight lasts longer than expected.
If you regularly take chip damage from Naval Combat patrols on the way back to base, the +30% HP from Stock Ketch to Brethren Ketch is the cheapest survivability upgrade in the game.
