Repaired a broken table cell, added an Access and First-Visit Loot Order section, a quick-reference table, and more internal links.
Pirate Remains is a hand-crafted point of interest on the east side of the starting island in Windrose. It holds the Decrepit Chest whose Blurry Sketch triggers the Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest side quest, and a separate Supply Cache that hands a fresh character a free Fast Travel Bell.
Property | Detail |
|---|---|
Type | Hand-crafted point of interest (loot and quest trigger) |
Location | East coast of the Starting Island, near the shipwreck spawn |
Containers | Decrepit Chest and a Supply Cache |
Key reward | Guaranteed Fast Travel Bell from the cache |
Triggers | Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest (via the Blurry Sketch) |

Pirate Remains sits in a shallow coastal area east of the player's initial shipwreck spawn. The POI is recognizable by a small boat and scattered skeletal debris. A Decrepit Chest sits in the center of the scene, and a half-buried boat beside the skeleton hides the Supply Cache.
No gate, key, or prerequisite blocks Pirate Remains. From the shipwreck where a new character washes ashore, walk east along the coast until the boat and bones come into view. The area is shallow water and beach, so it is reachable on foot from the very start of the game, with no swimming or boat required. Neither container needs a tool to open, which is why most players clear it before crafting anything.

Blurry Sketch of the Island | Quest item that triggers Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest when read. Stored in the Curios Tab |
Random uncommon weapon | Low-level filler; rarely worth carrying |
Utility lighting; can be placed at base |
Reading the Blurry Sketch in the Curios Tab starts the Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest quest. The quest directs the player northwest across the starting island (avoiding the central Ancient Ruins) to a dirt patch flanked by four skeletons. Opening the buried chest there spawns four Drowned Sailor enemies as an ambush encounter, so approach the dig with a weapon drawn and stamina full.
Pirate Remains itself is the quest trigger; it does not grant direct rewards when looted. Rewards for the Fifteen Men on a Dead Man's Chest quest are earned later, at the buried chest northwest of the camp and through follow-up steps. The quest payout is generally listed as a small experience and faction-reputation bundle plus a handful of Silver Ingot and Guinea coins at completion, though exact quantities vary by patch.
The Decrepit Chest is not the only container at Pirate Remains. A Supply Cache sits inside the half-buried boat next to the skeleton, separate from the chest. Looting the cache always grants a Fast Travel Bell, which lets a fresh character set up the first travel point without spending the usual Copper Ingot and Rope crafting cost. That free bell is the single biggest reason to make this POI the first stop on the starting island.
Open the Decrepit Chest for the Lamp and the Blurry Sketch quest item.
Loot the Supply Cache in the buried boat for the guaranteed bell.
Read the Blurry Sketch from the Curios Tab only once you are ready to fight, since it sets the ambush dig in motion.
Continue to the central Ancient Ruins and the bonfire site.
Most players hit Pirate Remains within the first 45 minutes of starting a new character. Bring healing and a Shovel (crafted from 3 Copper Ingot plus 10 Wood at the Workbench) to complete the dig portion. If you have not crafted the Shovel yet, pick up the Blurry Sketch first and return later; the Decrepit Chest itself does not require the Shovel to open.
